Been thinking of ways to improve gameplay interaction between EVE and DUST.
Skyfire cannons will allegedly allow Dust players to destroy EVE ships in orbit, depending on who is controlling the cannon. This would mean that when your side is in control of the cannon; you're going to want and need your EVE support to hit the enemy as hard and as heavily as they can, as long as they can.
Considering that current warbarge orbitals are gimped, I imagined an orbital strike that's even FURTHER scaled down. Mini, single-shot orbital strikes, that can fire every 30-60 secs. Allow these orbital strikes to be called using the Wheel Menu. Select "Tactical Strike" from the Squad Orders Wheel Menu. Your merc brings up his arm, and an AoE ground marker/indicator appears on the ground showing where the single-shot orbital strike will land.
The merc aims at the area he wants to use it, and it's up to the EVE-side pilot to take the shot when called. The warbarge will not be used in this manner. EVE pilots will be required for these speed strikes.
As for the dynamics of the actual attack, it would be similar to the current warbarge orbital, however it would only be a single volley fired, and NOT a series of hits. This means that tanks won't be sitting ducks, since most can handle orbitals as long as they aren't at the point-zero.
These mini-strikes would run on a TIMER instead of WP, and would exist in addition to the standard WP-gained orbital strike, and would make controlling skyfire cannons in the future THAT much more vital to success.
I think it's a sound idea to make the gameplay more dynamic, and prevent EVE pilots from completely falling asleep in orbit. Thoughts? |

Ministrikes? I'd make 16 squads of 1 and spam 'speed orbitals' on everything that moves. |

How would the timer prevent several pilots from providing this degree of support? |

...?
Because they have to fire from a specific position above the district. Simply put the timer there. |

So the timer specifically affects the pilots providing the orbital and not the ground forces? |

Considering what you mentioned, would that not provide a better balancing? |
