While I will agree with many of the points made in the vid, well except for the economy on the SWOT table as I can not see any economy in Dust at all. You buy from the NPC and well that is it. Now Eve does have a pretty complex economy but we are not linked to it in any way.
Back to the issue at hand. Yes the PS2 posts and the game is dying threads are annoying when nothing constructive is added but there were a lot of constructive posts made over the weekend and the opposing force treated both groups equally by saying GTFO, ban them, and your not helping the game by being negative. Such actions on both sides will not result in a balanced and reasonable response.
Yes this game has a lot of "unrealised" potential to it but too much of it has remained unrealised. Asking people to wait as things will change in time is all well and good if customers have a better understanding of the actual time frame and what they can expect and in what order. I am not talking about specific deadlines and detailed roadmaps but a general idea of what is being prioritised would be helpful.
But how often can you ask people to be patient, even with detailed roadmaps, before they give up and go somewhere else, particularly in the console market. We all see the potential in the game but it is starting to reach the point where a number of customers want to start to see some of that potential turned into actual gameplay. Unrealised potential has no value, potential has value when it comes to ideas and dreams but a tangible realised product gives you the long term profit. Not the greatest example but look at the dot com bubble. Their was plenty of potential there until people started asking where the return on their investment was coming from and when.
I continue to support the game and I do hope it succeeds but there are a number of important, in my opinion, issues that need to be resolved if CCP wants Dust 514 to be a significant player in the console FPS market rather than a 2-3k player base niche expansion to Eve Online.
Some of the issues I have outlined in other threads are as follows:
1. FPS and basic gameplay mechanics need to be improved e.g. movement, strafe and basic gunplay. 2. Issues between the various control devices need to be resolved e.g. Eliminate all control devices until you only have the DS3 or improve KB&M so they function as they should but massively improve autoaim to ensure that KB&M has no advantage over the other 2 controllers. At the moment it feels like CCP chose to balance the various control schemes by making them all bad. Having access to other control types is good but it should be about famialrity and preference and not about advantage. Make the controllers equally good and not equally bad. 3. During this period of massive balancing changes to gear you should be able to Respec your character as it improves enjoyment of the game and helps retain the current player base.
Finally I have noticed among those who most strongly defend the game that a few use the argument that this is an official release when arguing against things like Respecs in one thread and then in another thread saying you should accept balancing issues and not having all the basic racial gear available because this is really a beta even if it has been released.
However, it would be nice to see the constructive threads highlighted rather than drowned out by the hate threads and the I hate the hate threads counter arguments. Not to worry these threads will dies down for a while until we reach the next tipping point in July. |
