Please help me, I don't know what to do. I'm specializing in scout and nova knives, but my kill ratio at the end of every battle is 0. All the maps are pretty open field under the sunlight, so I am always spotted, but even in closed areas they see me first. Am I approaching stealthly an unaware enemy from behind?
- He/she will turn on me at the very last moment and kill me;
- He/she will make a step at the very last moment, dodge my slashes and of course put a bullet in my head;
- One or more enemies will appear, apparently more invisible than me, even with a heavy armor and I am using Precision Enhancer.
In the light weapon slot I've equipped AR for general purposes, plus it has militia version and a low cpu cost. I hit nothing: if I am shooting a bit to the left/right, I aim to the right/left and repeat left-right-left-right trying to center my opponent in front of me, so basically I'm spraying, but my target does not suffer any damge just by standing in the middle of bullet rain.
After playing this character for two months and Dust in general for four months, I am still a total noob. Worse than that, a total noob can own me every time. What should I do, aside from leaving the game? |

Nova knives seem a little ambitious. Try to swap AR for Flaylock or shotgun and you will be better prepared for that moment your opponent catches you sneaking. Be aware that as a scout, speed is your only advantage, and if you stop moving in view of an enemy, you die. And if any enemy catches sight of you, you show up on all enemy radars. |

Nova knives are widely considered underpowered and more a troll weapon if anything. Most dedicated scouts nowadays run shotguns, flaylock pistols or assault rifles, with the occasional Minmatar using nova knives. The most general tip I can give you is find out what your chosen dropsuit is good at and improve it as much as you can. For instance Minmatar scout suits are weaker than Gallente scout suits, but run faster and do more melee damage. Slap a few sprint and stamina enhancers and you'll dash around like a very large bullet dodging everything. Personally I use Gallente scouts with shotguns, designed for infiltrating objectives and hack them real fast for my team.
For why you can't hit anything with your AR, I can't help you, I run shotguns pretty much exclusively. |

I am using Minmatar scout dropsuits, they fit perfectly in the role, even this character is Minmatar (it's purely a coincidence).

Racial suits, kincats, active scanner, and shield extenders.
An advanced minmatar racial scout with 2x complex kincats gives you 10.3+ m/s sprint (tested) and 38.25 db profile. With that suit and an appreciation for picking win-able fights, you will do all right. Also learn to slide along walls and sprint away when spotted. Might learn to spam your knife sounds to distract opponents also...
I highly suggest PMing Maken Tosch and asking him to squad with you.
edit: Maken gave a nova knife lecture to d-uni on 6/16, just sayin'. |

1. Are you using speed modules like Kinetic Catalyzers to close distance as fast as possible?
2. Are you making sure that you circle your enemies if you are spotted by close enough to them?
3. Are you making sure that you are avoiding shotgunners?
4. Are you staying close to your team mates and letting them provide the distraction while you flank the enemy?
5. Are you making sure that you isolate your targets? |

^^^^^^ that's mega important, the other thing is if your going to be a scout, you have to be a scout, what I mean is you have to really discipline your point spending. So you need your knives proficiency five your racial suit 5 kincats and endurance 5 shield upgrades armor upgrades an shield extension 5 and at least a 3 or 4 pg and CPU . And profile damp. This alone will cost almost 10 mil. So pic the stuff that won't weight your suit down. Shield and armor upgrades is 5% per level of total shield an armor. Proto suit is 5% nova damage so is knife proficiency Endurance ads passive perks and opens speed. These are your life lines. You need high pg an CPU or proto knives a gun, an complex shields an kincats won't fit on a cheap suit. So get your racial 3 suit proficiency your knives, open kincats, shield upgrades. Then extention. Use a bpo gun until all this is donE The knife proficiency an racial suit make the knive what they should be, and you gotta run at least 9.0 to make them useful. If your damage isn't up an your aproche an speed sucks YOU WILL DIE! Charging knives is a waste of time you need damage. Also attack in tight spaces an from high areas, you can hop a railing to kill below or to escape. Also use walls back them into a corner, wait till the letters flashing an get the hacker. Open maps, use a roof hop down kill one an run, circle the whole building do it again, switch locations but use same tactic. Untill you have room for complex shields an complex speed you have to have patience. I die when I get stubborn , I get over 20 when I'm calm an smart. Learn the maps an how players move in them, right place right time gets kills. The better you are with low shields an speed you can double that once you can afford what you need it's all about priority Proto knives damage , speed an shields. Shield upgrades lv five an shield extension lv one with endurance five an Kincats 3 will do u better than shield extension 5 an no kincats, cuz you ll be slower an militia cats use too much CPU . So spend wisely get damage an speed, think in an out, if your slow an cant kill in one shot your dead no matter what gun, suit or shields u have. |

- Not yet, since I got only 1 million sp and put the majority in knives, unlocking prototypes.
- If I am spotted, I run away. I don't think I disappear from their radar, am I wrong?
- I have encountered only one or two shotgunners.
- This. I have to learn this. Theoretically, a scout should dispatch himself from the mass, investigate the territory and clean it from menaces such as snipers. I tend to do so, too bad it is the equivalent of selecting "suicide" in Neocom.
- I suppose they are isolated, but their comrades can pop up from nothing.
I do need at least lv3 suit and it will take months for me to stack all the sp needed (imagine for everything else!), too bad lv1 has very low cpu. I supposed shield upgrades were useless since they work in %. |

What you should have done is start off only with the ZN-28 Nova Knives (advanced) which by themselves is sufficient for prospective knifers to get a hang of and then focus the rest on getting the scout suit, speed mods, and beefing up a little bit of the core skills like Dropsuit Electronics and Dropsuit Engineering. Since you only have 1 million SP, that makes it difficult. I recommend at least fitting a militia SMG as a backup just in case until you grow use to the knives.
Here is a copy of the lecture I gave to my fellow students at Dust University just recently.

I am honest. Just create a character, play a couple of battles, then wait at least a week to play again I dislike FPSs, except Dust and the last Call of Juarez, furthermore only recently I moved from my logibro char (about 3 mill sp). Healing the team is really satisfying, but backstabbing is so funny!
I am reading the lecture, thank you so much mr. Tosch. |

My bad, Amuf. Most of the alts I come across use a separate PSN account. This way they can accrue passive SP. If you're only at 1M, it may not be a bad idea to consider doing this. It'd work to your benefit in the long run...just a suggestion .

Or better yet evolve like the ninja did into the modern day yakuza and grab a gun.

Nova knives aren't too good at lower tiers, but they're amazing later. I use a scrambler rifle with mine- if I'm not to comfortable about getting close, I go for a charged headshot
Here's my current fit: Scout M/1 series Scrambler rifle Ishukone Nova knives AV grenades Active scanner Basic shield extender x2 Basic Profile dampener Basic armor repair unit
I don't really know why you're having bad luck, but the profile dampener should help. I generally like to either patrol the corners nobody ever checks, sneak up behind people who are busy shooting elsewhere, or just wait for people to start hacking something before I stab them in the back. If they notice me, I hop/sprint around like a ************ and spam R1 until they die
Btw, I have Dropsuit Biotic Upgrades V ( good bonus to stamina, sprint speed, and stamina regen) so that might effect something |
