I will be honest in saying the main reason why I save sp and my isk, and grind endlessly is for the faint hope that jets will be epic not much has been said about jets, I think its been mentioned that they will be VTOL but that's about it.
What role do you think jets should play? and what features should they have?
Personally I think that they should be very fast and very flimsy but they should be able to take out ground targets with moderate ease so to stop them from killing your vehicles on the ground you would need to deploy your own jets and so a battle for the skys would happen.
A whole new set of weapons would need to be released for these jets to make them effective. In one of the trailers a jet fired missiles with crowd control effects which would be great |

I don't think jets ate going to be the saving grace of this game, though, my Swarm Launcher does not mind the extra targets. |

I am being quite serious here so don't take this as a troll. Before you comment on jets you REALLY REALLY need to go and either play or read the forums for Planetside 2 and understand how Air vs Ground balance has been a non-stop heartache for the game since it began. This is a LOT more complicated than you think; stuff that sounds cool like VTOL and ground attack weapons are actually unmitigated disasters when in play.
PS2 has air forces of their version of jets (Empire Specific Fighters) and you know how much air combat occurs? Close to none, 90% of pilots go equip themselves with A2G rockets and farm infantry which then led to massive overbuffs to AA weaponry and so forth and so on.
Its really hard to get right and based on the state of current infantry weapons and Vehicle vs AV balance there is zero chance CCP will get it right. |

yeah I played planetside 2 and tried to be a pilot, it was very broken that's why I am hoping someone will get it right |

Once you fight a pro jet players it's like the most annoying thing to fight. |

Jets escort bombers full air combat . escort the bombers to the drop-zone where they will kill most ground support but they have a long cool down on payload so have to bug out for next run The jets will escort and make strafing runs against the aa tanks from safe angles
This would need the team to communicate and guide the pilots so everything needs that team work that we all want
It could be amazing if the get i right

If you guys want jets to succeed, you better start defending vehicles, because CCP keeps nerfing them to levels of novelty. Look at how LAVs have more survivability than tanks and don't get me started on Derpships which are the only air vehicle we have now. |

99.99999% positive Destroyer HAVs and the new assault dropships will be the only things in the sky that will be able to hit them. |

Agreed the whole system need amending a tank is suppose to be hard to kill thats where team work comes in you shouldn't be soloing a tank with a grin on ur mush because its so easy to wipe out And for dropships :/ as soon as it stops its destroyed by a rail cannon or forge gunner it needs counter measures asap
Lavs are the only thing that was about right and they got a big buff
Team work wins . make vehicles a bit harder so you need to use those teamwork skills to kill it for maybe more wp for av effort

Jets - pretty much air to air ability with limited air to ground ability. Bombers - excellent air to ground abilities but very limited air to air abilities. Infantry - good ground to air/ground ability and access to underground bunkers and facilities HAVs - access to larger facilities, very good ground support, good ground to air support LAVs - access to most facilities at least on the ground floor Facilities - access to artillery for ground vehicles and guided missile turrets for ground to air. Buildings should have multiple floors and roof access from the inside NOT just ladders. As well as underground bunkers linking at least some of the buildings.
No single group should be able to dominate the map. |

Jet will be the END of dropships.. as broken the dropships are already Jet that could harass my dropship on top of the forge guns auto locking missile (LIGHT WEAPON? wth) railgun tanks and installations..
I tell you if jets are going to be focused on AA I will only cry a lot.. |

why not remove the VTOL and hover abitilies and then my making jets fast and the lock-on missiles have a short range time your derpship will be relatively safe.
Reason: The jet is flying at your derpship at a high speed but he cant lockon yet, by the time he has the lockon he will be overshooting you, and if he does get the missile off in time you will still have your countermeasures. the jet wont be able to concentrate on you because your jets are hopefully harassing him.
Or let jets keep the VTOL and hover but increase the lockon time of missiles, or even have a module wich increases the lockon time that can be equipped on your dropship. so to take you down he will have to hover stationary in the air and be vulnreble to every AV weapon in the game. |

That's quite an ideal situation; your jets could fight their jets and get 5, 6 kills in the match, or both teams jets could just ignore each other till the enemy dropships are down; that way they get 12-13 kills, which means more wp, sp and general happiness. See BF3/BF2/BF Vietnam/BFBC/BFBC2 before you dogfight, you take down the ugly sky-whales (aka choppers/derpships)
No matter what, a aerial transport vessel is ****** the moment some AA Aircraft takes off. |

Battlefield 3's flight controls were far too "floaty" for my taste. It didn't feel like you had airflow over the aircraft at all, just that it was following a script on how it should handle or something.
I realize that's the case with most games, but if you want to cite a good example, pick a dedicated air-combat sim.
For me, I always loved iF-22 back before iMagic closed down. It was obviously dedicated to a single aircraft, but the sheer level of detail they put in was incredible.
As far as games that aren't "hardcore" sims, gotta go with the Ace Combat series. I know it's gotta sound weird to be saying a console game gets it right, but it does. Also, this is a console game anyway, so why not get some practice in? That's what I've been doing these past few weeks, and will continue to do until I can get in the air in Dust. |
