Time and time again my inability to effectively handle a dropship has caused me to log off in frustration, resulting in less and less of a desire to log back in each time. I would go without using one, but they are essential for me, being a sniper, to reach tall buildings that don't have ladders. It's rare enough to jump into a game that actually has a building to snipe on, let alone one with a ladder on it. I've died more times trying to manage a dropship than I have from being counter-sniped, and I'm pretty much done trying to drive one. I find myself having a lot more fun having snipe-offs with fellow snipers and trading shots than constantly dying to a crashing dropship. It sucks and it's just not fun, to the point to where it's now game-breaking. Either make dropships easier to fly or put a few more buildings in the game with ladders on them.
Other than that, the game's great and I've got no other gripes. |

I don't know. I find that there's a lot of buildings with ladders.
As for the dropship controls, are you using a controller? I can recommend it. It's much easier than using kb/m |

DS r ok now as for me, and thanks for assault one, makes realy fun to engage, something like WW2 where ppl do not had any autotargeting and still were able to get right curve and press red button. The only thing i still missing is a way to kick ppl out of any vehicles/ds... |

Almost all reasonable buildings have ladders. Which maps and locations are you having issues with, because you might just be missing where the ladder is.

I use sniper, though, I tend to get a lot more kills the closer I am to my target not the farther away I am (I act like my teams shotgunner, I always take point). As for Drop ships, the learning curve is very high. |

the people I hate most in this game: people who use drop ships so they can get up high, then recall it. not hating on drop ship pilots but snipers that use them for only that.
also if you cant fly the dang thing to get to a spot that is your own problem. yes the drop ships are hard to fly... but do you know who for? the people that don't skill into them and just use them as a little ferry. if you cant handle it then maybe you should practice with it a little more. or stop using it to get to points no one else can g et to without a derp ship |

A good sniper doesn't need the highest perch nor should they be on the highest perch! Basic military tactics tell you that should never be on the top of a hill or any tall structure because you are silhouetted against the sky, making it very easy for someone to take you out.
Staying in one spot when sniping is also another major downfall, you shouldn't spend too long in the one place. Kill one or two people and then change position. Why? Because the guys you sniped have probably called out your general location to the rest of their team and another sniper is already looking for you.
Being on the top of the tallest building on the map is like having a huge beacon on the top of your head and I know guys in my Corp that would gladly waste a dropship just to pancake you |

This thread is awesome... I click it and ready myself to read yet another "OMG Dropships are made of paper" comment and yet I read about a guy who can't fly, admits it, and admits to only using the DS to be a giant Dbag.

Lol, the last post made me laugh. But in all seriousness a lot of you make good points. I should probably practice more yet also expect my use of it to make it all the more difficult to get to where I want to get to. I like the challenge of taking a high point, but moving around is good as well. I'll mess with it a little more. |

Ok, so you're complaining about not being able to jump right into something the rest of us have to specialize into in order to use aerial vehicles in exactly the way that so many people were afraid they'd be relegated to with how little hp they have? |

Well I'm glad you have experienced how hard it is to flhy a dropship, I hope you have gained some respect for us few that have chosen to become dedicated pilots. Back in the days of chromosome you needed to have a good pilot because you couldn't just recall your investment, you were going to loose it no matter what. If your having a hard time flying then find a pilot to ferry you, I know my sniper loves the quick rides to buildings, and he usually manages 17-0 when we fly. Your a sniper not a pilot, leave the flying to us flyboys and hier us out, god knows we could use the isk |

Well maybe if the dropship didn't fly so horribly and didn't have such a thin tank it wouldn't be used in such manner. |

Dropships are considered light aircraft, right? So, the flying equivalent of an LAV? Perhaps we need heavy ships (I doubt jets are meant to be heavy).

They would always be taken advantage of for such uses, but they wouldn't be used solely for that.
As it is that's the only useful role it serves, and that's the way it will remain until significant effort is invested by CCP. Slapping together a bomber variant is not going to do it. |
