As said in the title this isn't a crying thread, instead I'm aiming for a constrctive suggestion/discussion.
Each weekend since Uprising release we've had serious network problems that has required the live cluster to have a couple of hours of downtime. Generally the weekend is when most players are online, so are the issues related to some sort of memory leak or whatever that pushes Tranquility over the edge when too many people connect? The biggest downtime we've suffered was during the Templar event, at that time it was blamed on a DDoS attack, but was that really the case? During the event there would have been a lot more people trying to play so the server would have suffered even more, and with the regularity of the other issues it does seem suspect that a DDoS did not actually happen. Either way, that is not the point.
The point is, since Uprising there has been cluster downtime, now I know Dust is free to play but Eve isn't (I don't play). If Dust is affecting Eve, then the free game is interfering with CCP's bread & butter. So my suggestion is that we all suck it up/HTFU, and move Dust off the live Tranquillity & back on to the test (Serenity?) server until the problem can be resolved.
Being that Dust has minimal impact on Eve (besides unscheduled downtime) then there shouldn't be much of an issue, Eve players can still perform any OBs etc.
What do you folks think? |

eve is known for metagaming, it's possible the ddos related to eve war campaigns or possibly a disgruntled player |

It's pretty easy to imagine within the player base that there might be some socially incompetent nerds with an ability to use or hire such resources. |

LOL the Ruskies did it?? It's like going back to the cold war era.
Gotta love the Eve players. The devotion to CCP being infallible is admirable. I'm not quite there yet, spent a lot of cash & been in Dust for over a year. Still have faith, although it has been tested a lot recently.
I'm taking the approach that CCP have a great & inspiring idea, but have bitten off more than they can chew, too early on. They need the help from the community to resolve all the issues, ignoring all the unnecessary negative posts BUT also the unquestionable positive affirmation posts as well, both can cause more harm than good in the long run.
PS apologies to any Russian Players, no offence meant.

Well Bucky, I really don't think the community is going to be the path to "resolving all the issues" around here. No matter who you listen to there will be a large chunk of the community cheesed off.
I don't think we have to eliminate either negative or positive posts (leaving what) but it would be nice if we could at least be informative in our posts -- instead of simply hating. |

Totally agree with you there on the too much hate, even though I slightly side tracked my own thread.
What are the possible implications if we moved back to the test server?
The Eve expansion, Odyssey, was mentioned as having issues. Is Eve having similar issues to Dust? Laggy behavior, disconnections etc? Has there been too many changes put upon poor ole Tranquility? A bug correction in one patch / update causing several more in the other patch / update? |
