>> TL, DR at the end <<
I am not sure where to put this post, general chat, this one, etc...
Before I began to play Dust I read a lot of reviews about it, having played EVE in the past, Dust was a big thing to me. There was a lot of mixed reviews with the common thread being "the controls need work".
When I first got the game I couldn't help but to compare with other FPS that I played in the past. The controls were definitely different, but I thought to myself, I can learn this, its just a matter of getting used to.
I have played Dust for about a week and I have about 1kk sp, without any boosters, and I got used to, many things, but the still think the controller needs work.
Before beginning this thread I searched on the forums for "controller" and most people just say "something is wrong" but no one knows what it is. Another common subject was that, the poor controls were due to the fact that the devs attempted to make the controls "playable" for KBM, DS3 and move.
I noticed that whenever I tried to camp and wait for a player to stop before shooting them it would be a easy kill. If the player strafed to one direction only, again easy kill. However, experienced FPS players know that randomness keeps you alive. Thus, whenever I fight a FPS vet, it is almost impossible to get the kill due to the fact that when he moves and I try to compensate, the cross-hairs overshoot, the player has moved again, etc... its a cycle of unable to get the aim on the target. This goes along with trying to snipe or trying to use AR at the far end of its effective range. Overshooting when attempting to regain aim. I tried increasing/decreasing the sensitivity, but the problem persists.
This pushed me to only engaging targets that were already engaged by a team mate or an enemy that was attempting to hack something. It feels as if 1/4 of the clip does the trick.
Also I often talk with people at the top of the list in the end game review. Most of then not they were using nova knives or shotguns with a light suit. I haven't met a sniper that was the top killer.
>>> TL,DR: if poor controls will remain in order to accommodate the 3 different input methods, then being quick (will allow one to survive longer) and using a weapon that require less aiming is favored (because of the poor aiming mechanics). <<<
My opinion is: focus on improving the DS3's aiming to attract/keep larger player base.
Please let me know you opinions. |
