I gave every weapon a try today and while Pulse Laser Weapons work quite good the normal Laser Rifle just plain sucks at distances closer than 50 m. Even if they run towards you you barely hit them for 1-2 seconds and them you must re-aim. You are not really far off the target but you don-¦t hit it anymore. So my thought: It-¦s a hundreds of degrees hot laser beam so why can-¦t it do a bit thermal damage to targets close to the beam? It should not be much damage and much "range" but about 5-10 damage per second to targets within 25-50 cm would be nice.
Maybe you could also apply this to Scrambler Rifles and Pistols on the loss of a bit damage. |

its a medium to long range weapon why should it be doing mega amounts of damage at close range midas well ad a light saber to the mix if we are going to be giving a boost to this weapon or at that give AR's ricochet damage coz some bullets would skim off a mercs helmet and smash into the merc beside the objective or maby the 100s of degrees the hmg gun barrel heats up to or the forge gun or better yet i think we should add in damage to all swarm launcher carriers due to firing a swarm launcher beside there head would make them go deaf firing 4 - 6 missiles off beside there face there fore they shouldn't have any sound out of there tv for 15 seconds??
the laser rifle is hella beastly at long range they drop me fast as thats 578 shield and 150 armor in my proto in like a matter of seconds if i fail to use cover or just fail to move they are perfect long to mid range weapons not made for close range reading descriptions of guns goes along way my friend |

The SCR is already gimped in range and damage you don't need to give it the laser equivalent to Splash damage, I user the PROTO SCR and i am constantly outranked my AR's and HMGs that are short to Mid range weapons whereas the SCR is Mid to Long range |

They are really broken here. You have no spread and you move very slow when ADS. Even if they are about 70 m away you they are sometimes faster than you can move so such AOE would be really appreciated for Laser Rifles. |

That's the point of the weapon - it's a medium to long-ranged weapon with insane accuracy intended for open confrontations such as "Manus Peaks" and outdoor facility settings. An LR user should switch to a sidearm at closer ranges. As for your AoE suggestion - lasers simply do not do that. They may create a plasma channel (as ours do) and have the channel be visible, but almost all of the energy is going in a perfectly straight line until refracted into another perfectly straight line, or hitting the target. The LR used to be on the OP side when at range, but it got nerfed to having an extremely narrow engagement band with lesser damage. CCP tends to over-nerf in these kinds of situations, and the LR should eventually be rebalanced as Missile Turrets were after their over-nerfing. But the LR will always suck in CQB because that's not its role - if you don't want to (or can't from fitting) use a sidearm at closer ranges, pick a different Light weapon for close ranges. |

I wouldn't like this applied to current laser weaponry (I only use energy weapons, btw) but I would love to see an Amarrian heavy weapon that has splash like that.
If you want to talk about area denial tools that thing would be a beast. |

As much as I would like my laser rifles to do massive aoe damage and burn down anyone in my sights I don't think it's the proper fix for them so many have been requesting.
The idea of an Amarr Large Laser Defense Turret sounds good though. |
