Dust is cutting edge in so many regards, granted there plenty of issues, but they are trying to reinvent the wheel to some extent. I almost exclusively run a light DS (and pretty soon I think I'll be the only person running a proto light suit), and I don't feel like I'm getting killed too fast, or getting overpowered by unfair balancing issues. This isn't your typical shooter, so why do we keep expecting it to be? It might be blasphemy, but good work CCP! Thanks for giving us a different FPS. After all, this is free to play. You don't need boosters to remain competitive, you just need to not suck.
This is just assive-aggressive verbal abuse on the players, and it's old. "Yeah, it's laggy and broken and you advance glacially, but let's face it, that's YOUR fault, not CCP's. I know that I'm edgy and cool to go out on a limb and ignore CCP's failures, so love me, or you're a meanie loser who can't play."
Peddle it elsewhere, DEV alt. |

iceyburnz wrote:I created an alt today, and for a beautiful moment there was a battle with everyone in militia gear. And the fight was balanced and viseral. We lost and ambush map 0 clones to 1 clone. The snipers where on the ground, there were close range fights between tanks and AV. No tower snipers, no tower tanks, no proto gear lamers.
And I thought to myself "this is what Dust 514 should feel like"
I recommend every vet should try this. Make an alt and get in instant battle acedemy. No fiddling with SP to try get an edge, just cast it all off and let your FPS skills guide you. Theres something very zen about it all.
Best day in Dust 514 since the closed beta.
This I agree with. Gear-chasing has ruined this game irrevocably. Let the imbalance come from tactics, not gear-mongering. |

Peddle it elsewhere, DEV alt. haha, and how would the analysis be on your post with the same merrits? "ya I'm jusrt gonna bash this guy cuz I spotted a flaw in his argumentation that "I" see to advance a rant.. hmmm lets see, I'll call him passive agressive(that usually pisses them off) and generally be a mean sun of a gun, cuz i dont give a **** as long as it seems zen" well FU 2 man, -If this guy is running proto lights souts, well hell, he's gotta run around facing alot of game mechanichs and know what he+Šs talking about -he's not a dev alt(u silly boy) -I know cuz i feal much the same. I allso wanted to write something nice today Its valid to state something good in this jungle of misunderstandings. I allso like it when ppl are explisit about what they see as shortcomings. Maby you should just put that baseball bat down before you hurt someone, sir =D
"Ditto" would have been shorter. And spared you the embarrassment of owning that rambling tripe you just thumbed into your iPhone.

Play for fun. In a game that guarantees wins for gear chasers or is outright lying about its premise. And me having fun is a separate event from that being stupid. I do have fun, the game is stupid. |

To the other point, if gear provides no clear advantage, why is it offered at all, and why do you have to work to acquire it? |

Terra Thesis wrote:Onesimus Tarsus wrote:And you seem unduly concerned over my emotional health. it's only a concern of mine insofar as you seem determined to dedicate all your time and wit to share your emotional suffering to the rest of us as much as possible. I'd be content to just never hear from you again, but even better would be if i witnessed you reaching true peace, without cynicism in your heart. not just the calm, controlled peace of a practiced sociopath. as for edges, sure, they exist. they just don't guarantee a win.
I tried to ignore the heavy-handed insult and Catch-22 pseudo-psychology of that statement, but then I wondered, "Am I really a sociopath because of my storied stance on this video game?" Sooo, I looked it up.
Sociopath, n. a person with a psychopathic personality whose behavior is antisocial, often criminal, and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.
Nothing more criminal and anti-social than posting on a PS3 message board, I must agree. But thankfully, one of the light-crafters has extended their bejeweled hands into my pathetic muck and offered me "true peace". That is to say, a round acceptance of Dust 514 as a really fine video game that no one else has sought to criticize before my destructive arrival here in Candy Land.
Of course, my response has cemented me as emotionally crippled (nay, criminally so!) per the setup above, and so, you, great healer and sole voice of sanity in this fever-pitched battle, have won the set and match.
Back to the point: Either the gear that so many people grind for (or to CCP's hopes, pay for) gives a decided edge (and yes, I know, if you put proto gear on me it does little) or it is simply a ruse. Now, seriously, it's just a video game after all, right? Why not just let everyone have everything immediately and let the fun of using it ensue?
Because, intrepid reader, that is never once the advertised product! In fact, this particular company just released a video extolling the virtues of a game universe wherein the most criminal, cynical, and sociopathic (oh, how rich) behavior is not only tolerated, but is celebrated. It is the absolute ne plus ultra of EvE and DUST to get yourself in a position whereby betrayal nets the maximum damage, and then betray away.
In this light, CCP has already won. I mean, what's lousier than offering a video game, a form of incredibly light entertainment, and then loading it with such emotional baggage? Then stretch out the development with sundering flaws, reversal of values, and the fate of Tantalus himself, waiting for EvE integration that as of yet, just might as well be simulated.
So, again. Yes, I do occasionally have fun here, and I know that mindless fun is possible here, but isn't that contrary to the developers' goal? By merely accepting our lot in life, be it real or digital, haven't we missed CCP's point? Isn't this game at that point most like the teeming crowd that it seeks to separate itself from?
I am sorry that I cannot so blithely offer you true peace. Because I would rather have you, here, now, angry enough to change things than happy enough to be useless. |
