I have been thinking about this for a while and also talking to others about this, and i really think, that in order to drive home the whole one universe thing, that players really should be able to have the option to travel to different systems, and should appear in the system local they are fighting in, at the very least in Factional warfare and Planetary Conquest.
The main reason for this in my opinion, is that unless a player has an eve alt, its extremely difficult for a dust player to organise orbital support. Which is why on the survey i made, only 30% of players have ever seen an orbital strike in FW.
By allowing players to move to another location, it allows players to effectively try and communicate with eve players in relevant places.
Obviously there are problems and questions that need to be asked and answered.
Should dust players, who naturally travel by jump cloning, be able to jump around all of new eden at will?
I say no on that end. Maybe there should be a cooldown, or even one idea i had, was that to move to a location for the first time, players need to buy a clone and then pay a long distance transfer charge depending on the distance. It could be cheaper to go one jump at at time, or save time but spending more to travel further.
Talking to eve players, some of them have been in the starter dust players for a lot longer than dust has been around, and some of them feel somewhat irritated by the constant dust stuff in their system which may have been backwater, unpopulated systems that suddenly have up to 300 dusties in there.
I would love some thoughts and opinons on this. |

Damn, read the title too fast and thought it was info about actual player movement (Vaulting, sliding .etc)
Instead its this crappy EVE - Dust connectivity thing.... |

Not all stations have a medical bay. Thats one restriction.
Also faction standing might play a part.
That being said (High concept expensive idea) I like the idea of dusties having to buy passage for clones. That might include physically walking from your room to a shuttle bay. Its doesn't have to be a social space, eve stations are massive I'm sure they have lots of little shuttle bays. |

Moving to the system where a battle takes place and makes total sense and surprised ccp didn't do this already I don't see this as something difficult to do while match is loading you change the local channel.
general moving around space should be restricted in some cases. We should be able to move around corp offices, selecting which office is a home station and where we go after a match.
I don't see the importance to travel around the solar system until we have a player market added we could have regional dust markets but a good way to travel around the regions is diffcult. if we can move to freely we lose the size and scale of eve if it takes to long moving becomes a chore which no one wants to do but have to do.
I can imagine standings being used to move around which are earned through factional warfare allowing for those with high standings able to place jumpclones in systems within factions control (though the chance of everyone joining caldari to earn the standings to cj to jita is high)
but if you can move around space at will for battles why would anyone ever want to leave jita/caldari/best dust market
There are many issues with moving which all boil down to are we going to restrict battles based on position if not moving outside of battles can only be changing your local chat channel which is pointless |

I disagree with you.
I think its these small things that give you a sense of your place in the virtual world adds to the immersion factor.
Right now everything is text labels and the same 7 locations.
You think thats okay do you?

It seems like a pointless change for an FPS player, adding un needed complications to an already complicated game.
What purpose would it serve?
There is nothing to do that has an impact in New Eden. Nothing. Even owning a planet in PC is hardly a drop in the ocean.
Your kills don't matter. Your fit doesn't matter. Your choices don't matter. The things you do don't matter. There is no persistence. There is no meaning. No industry, no rats, no exploring, no socializing (mostly, thanks for comms though), no visual customization, no trading, no markets.
Basically. There is no meaning to DUST 514 right now. Adding a mechanic like this does nothing other than make things more difficult to grasp, without actually providing the slightest bit of purpose to the game. |

In and of itself it is a perfectly sound idea but quite a few things would need to be implemented before it becomes warranted. In general what we would need first is greater, added value, connections between Eve and Dust.
At the moment for dust players, in the main, see no difference between FW and a regular skirmish. Dust Mercs derive no concrete benefits from a FW battle over an instant battle. So placing restrictions, at this time, on Mercs to participate in FW such as paying for clones and cool down period would kill FW for Dust in its tracks.
However, if you had Eve Alliances for example, providing transport to the battle and launching heavy dropships to get the Mercs to the planets surface then you start to get something interesting. Now as Mercs we would require Eve Corps to purchase and/or negioate contracts with us before we would be willing to fight. Obviously we would not accept a contract that does not result in a profit for us I.e. the contracted amount would factor in the cost of clones, transport etc so in effect it would not be us paying for clones but Eve pilots.
Now you could introduce varying contracts with differing levels of risk and reward but ultimately it would be for that merc, corp, or Dust Alliance to decide if they accept the conditions placed on that contract.
As such before you can introduce costs, to the merc, of entering FW you must introduce concrete benefits as to why we should get involved.
Concrete Benefit: a tangible return for our activities e.g. LP Store, Better Isk payouts, better salvage, defined benefits for taking and holding that specific system e.g. Receive resources that can be used in some fashion.
But in principle I am for anything that ties dust and eve together but it must be as equal partners and not as dust being subservient to Eve concerns. |

Any station with a medical facility should have a fluid router.
Any station with a fluid router should be an acceptable destination (not accounting for Standings in 0.0 Outposts).
If I choose to eat a bullet, I should be allowed to respawn anywhere there is an acceptable destination.
We are not capsuleers, we should not need to abide by wetalldid Jump Clone timers. |

Really you care about immersion when fps mechanics are bad, limited content, game modes are bad, PC is lame, bugs and glitches everywhere.
This is a stupid idea and I doubt ccp would even think about it given all the existing problems and challenges they face. |

This topic really doesn't matter at all. How about talking to CCP about getting the election for the real CPM going. Or if you must fill your time with posting about changes to DUST, how about campaigning with changes that actually matter. Like terrain mapping, control optimizations, a fully workable options page....Noone cares about moving from system to system. |

+1 I support this theory, but I am still concerned with the vast number of ways it will get bugged. I am so sorry, but in my present state of mind everytime I see a topic about adding new things to innovate gameplay what I really see is "In the upcoming patch we are adding a bug that will effect ar and a bug that will make you freeze, and another bug that is a surprise event. The first person to find the bug gets to post w/o the threat of deleting the topic" |

none of the current cpm members should be eligible to run for cpm1. Let them focus on the job at hand not make fake topics like this to act like they are providing a community service.

I agree and disagree.
The things you mention are all important, though I think (uh-oh) this would be exceedingly simple to implement. If it isn't that hard and it appeases (however minorly) our desire for change, it should be done.

Indeed, it would be quite special to be able to hitch a ride to another part of the galaxy to where it is more populated, where there are more bases and eve players.
Having the option to do this will increase player development through the dust-eve connection and encourage players to participate more on the even side.
Even having the option of a list of battle grounds where players on even can choose to go to, if the path to this location is safe. I do not know that much about the even side of the world but over all, I do like this idea. |

It would be awesome to travel around New Eden but what does it mean for a player of Dust? A different Local Chat? You are stuck in the Merc Quarters with no view of the space around from your station (The Merc Quarters IS on a Space Station right?), so what would travelling around do for you? |

I think this is a good idea for someone like me. I am part of an Eve corporation. They are all based out of a single station except for me and other Dust corp mates. I understand my view of the system wouldn't change. But the point of it is If they buy me items for me to use in a corporation battle they wouldn't need to fly across all of Eve to get me tanks or fits or skills. If your in a Dust corporation with Dust only members I see why this isn't such a great idea to you. |

Good idea, though I don't think we'll ever get a chance to really get the sense of the "One Universe" thing when all we can really see of the world is our merc quarters, and some very few types of planet surfaces. There are no social places to visit spefic to any regions, we can never really see ships, etc. A map menu isn't really selling the experience.
This would be a step in the right direction. |
