I would like to see a "militia training" option on instant battles.
They play like ordinary maps. The only catch is you can only spawn in militia gear. Other loadouts are just red-outs as if you didn't have enough modules to spawn with them. No Aur stuff either, unless its militia grade, so you could say that the map is restricted by meta level.
The battles are run by Mordus Legion. This is in keeping with the lore. So teams a Mordus Legion vrs Mordus Legion. Everyone know Mordu is a sick kitten with a wierd fetish for clone soldiers.
Same with vehicles, only militia gear. No sneaky standard stuff.
Anyone can play in militia training as long as its militia gear.
Rewards should be reflective of the games. Risk verses Reward here. You play in militia gear expect tiny gains; in militia training. Im talking maybe a tenth of what you get in normal battles.
SP rewards should be the same though.
Alternatively, Isk could be based on board position, with small rewards to stop good player from farming. So 1st, 2nd and 3rd position gain 100% of the Isk. 4th to 7th gain half. 8th to 15th gain one fouth the reward.
I think this is a good idea because:
- vet players will be able to prove how leet they are by going back to militia gear. And showing its not all about the stuffs.
- New players will be able to play without any psychological damage they have recieved from miss information (zomg dust is pay to win).
- New players would be less likely to be pub stomped.
- Im not programmer or game designer. But I would probably be relatively "cheap" to impliment battles that check for meta level.
- a problem might be someone joining milita training ground without a miltia load out. When they have pleanty of time on the spawn screen to recrete the ones they deleted from thier starter fits.
Later Iteration:
- Could involve a massive 5kmx5km map with larger player numbers.
- That battle could be sandboxy. Meaning its a perminant battle, always on, 23/7.
- That 5kmx5km could be peppered with random SI, players receiving bonus cash for caputuring SI. You would have to be within 50m of the control point to qualify for the cash reward for capture or you just recieve your rewards when you leave battle.
- Destroyed installations would respawn every 10 minutes.
- Due to the large nature of the map and the possibility of being "red lined", players can sky spawn.
- There should be three such perma battles, one for each server zone.
Much Later Interations:
- No restrictions on the perminent battles.
- Faction warfare flavoured perminaent battles?
Input, people? |

This sounds like an okay idea...but you're missing a critical factor...
I seriously doubt that a character with
Armor and Shield Uprgrades to 5 (and related skills), Caldari Assault Suit to 5 (because only hybrid weapons), [EDIT: Oops nevermind] Assault Rifle Proficiency/Rapid Reload to 5 (Choose a Weapon here)
would have any problem stomping everyone without these skills to an adequate level. It'd be the same thing on a smaller/slower level. Think about it, without skills your suit has 25% less natural tank and 15% less damage output. Woe to the fool who uses a militia Amarr Medium Frame, cause he doesn't even have a compact nanohive.
Wait for matchmaking. Or the gladiator thing. Then make yourself some custom games.
I'd like to see some only shotgun or only HMG battles. Only nova knives. Or only snipers, but make the map super tiny. Hell, some only tanks would be cool, if only just for fun (the skill imbalance will always haunt these modes though).
Permanent matches where end of game matters are always fun but meh. When to I get my SP and ISK if the battle just keeps running? |

Even with elevated skills the actual bonuses are marginal compared to what you get with gear. The alterniative is what we have now, guys in militia gear getting totally pubstomped.
At least with a militia only map the disparity would be marginal and limited to skill points only.
For perminent battles, you get your rewards when you muster out. An alternative would be you collect bounties on kills. So when you get a kill it might say +50 for warpoints and +2000isk.

Medium Frames A/C/G/M: 45/52/30/38 Shields and 45/30/52/34 armor is marginal? That's free plates and two extenders!
The Militia AR going from 31 to 35.65 damage per shot (higher than base Duvolle) is marginal? Thats going from 387.5 DPS to 445.625 DPS! Marginal?!
101 Shields and 76 Armor for militia heavies...marginal...
I know this isn't the point of your thread but really now... |

Fair enough, you have seemingly undone me with math.
However there is an inherant fallacy to your logic. If you have the skill to boost the Duvolle, the Duvolles base damage is increased as well. You can't selectively increase the damage in weapons to prove a point.
And yes a 4.65 per shot increase is marginal. Thats will maxed skills. Majority of players don't have Assault Rifle Proficinecy 5. So if everyone is in militia gear the range of boost from skills alone is from 0 to 4.65 a shot. Yes I would argue that is a marginal/small/tiny increase. Miltia suits also have limited slots so players would have to be selective about what militia modules to stick in there.

I know this isn't the point of your thread but really now... My advanced suit has double the hp of my militia fitting. 80 hp from skills in comparison is marginal. |

The thing is we aren't comparing advanced suits to militia suits, we're comparing milita suits to militia suits with skills, and the inherent advantages of having SP over others in milita gear.
Lets take arguably the most viable of the militia suits: the Caldari Medium Frame,
Without skills: 210 Shields, 120 Armor With skills: 262 Shields, 150 Armor
That alone should be enough to show that the stomp will always be mitigated by SP one way or the other, but if you need more elaboration, take the two high slots and one low that these two suits have...
With two militia extenders, the non-skilled suit ends up having 254 shields, while the skilled suit ends up with 306-310,
Therefore the skilled suit can easily forego its extenders for damage mods, and still have a superior tank, which only improves its effectiveness.
In the case that both suits have militia assault rifles, one with and the other without sk1lls, the skilled suit has the potential to be doing 21% more damage than the unskilled suit. EDIT: (And or have a that 82-point tank and an additional 15% damage)
The unskilled suit has the option of putting on plates which just barely makes up the tank deficit (2 points is in fact marginal), but in turn taking the negative effects of plates and foregoing all the benefits that come with having an armor rep, which the skilled suit will easily be able to fit.
/rant. Sorry I just had this discussion last night with a friend cause it is a good idea |

Don't apologise Midas, all discussion is good.
Im not arguing that there is no advantage and perhaps I can retract "marginal". However I still think militia only battles would be fun.
And considering the eway dust works I don't think the increase *marginal or otherwise * would stop it being fun.
I recently created an alt and the IOnstant battle academy is really fun. The only time its not is when your in a battle will people about to bail who have gek 38s and the like. The pure militia battles have tbhis kind of beautiful balance and the fights a viceral and engaging.
My reason for the core idea is, why can't that be a feature for everyone to enjoy not just they first 2 or so week of play. With both your points about SP increasing base abilties and attributes taken ofcourse.
Im not joking, when I say instand battle acedemy was the most fun Ive had in dust since replication. Not saying that dust isn't fun, but IBA has thise weird zen quality to it.

I would love this so much. I've barely heard one bad thing about the academy battles, so I don't see how this could be bad at all. |

I agree with having some sort of separation in suit tiers, if only to keep new players engage and give them some sort of middle ground before they're thrown to the proto dogs.
I did some academy to train my friends new character, and I found it unbearable. I was trying my absolute hardest to not smurf, I was goofing around, shooting the sky, letting obvious snipers get their kills...still ended up doing too well and I felt too guilty to be having fun
But if there was a way to remove all skills from your particular match that would definitely solve a lot. |

How about, wait for it, Random Mode. Where everytime you die you switch roles with militia gear, no customization. You start out as whatever, then when you die you are a completely different clone. Fun? |

Might be a laugh.
How would it be explained in the lore? Everything needs lore continuity.
Im thinking its part of the weird gladiator type games the citizens of new eden bet on. |

besides what good could a heavy do since there is no militia hmg
and speaking of that gun is rate of fire is to fast to be effective. i know because i just tested the std hmg a it needs a sloer rof since u waste have of the clip tying to kill a single person....
its rof needs to be lowered. to make it more effective and efficient at killing stuff.... |

I think the main problem with the idea is there would have to militia varients of every item. |
