Yes you pay for online play, but your subscrition gets you 18 FREE games/month, 12 PS3 and 6 vita. Even if you end up only liking 2 of those games that 24 games/year you will get free.

Oh and these aren't all indy or low budget games these are AAA games including exclusives, you can expect to see virtually every Playstation Greatest Hits make it to the service.

While we may be accustomed to free online play and something we expect, i don't mind the fee because im getting more than simple online pay in my fee and knowing Sony they will use the revenue to expand their online infrastructure as well as acquire blockbuster AAA titles for free.

I fully expect Infamous Second Sons to be free within a year of release and "fingers crossed" Watch Dogs before the end of 2014 for free.

PSN doesn't need a subscription based model on top of the sales from all produces offered, especially considering that the end use must already possess an ISP subscription just to access their network. That's more like buying an MMO and then paying a separate additional subscription for access to the servers (meaning a fee on top of the cost of having a game account). Having access to money doesn't mean one wants to spent it on what amounts to frivolous money gouging. But who knows maybe this is unconfirmed or will be revised, until that time seems like holding off on PS4 purchases is a reasonable choice. 0.02 ISK Cross

I've been a PS+ subscriber 4 different times over the years and honestly haven't found it to be worth the value to maintain. Most of the PS+ games offered free (which I have any interest in) I've already played/own either through prior purchase or other means and they cease to be available if you ever allow your subscription to lapse, besides which access to them can be pulled at any time so if you don't want to play them during the offered window you're SoL (unless the PS4 model is set to change this aspect?) Cloud is kinda nice but never provided much use or value for me, certainly not enough to pay for. Discounts (the only element I've really been motivated by over the years) won't really apply if this becomes a PS4 requirement, they'll just be sales that happen sometimes or not. Don't get me wrong I think PS+ provides value for some users and is a great service for Sony to offer but that doesn't equate to it being a good value for all players or a reasonable requirement. 0.02 ISK Cross

A free psn was one of the reasons why I bought the ps3 over the xbox. If ps4 requires you to pay inorder to play games over the network, then I'm probably not going to buy a ps4 anytime soon. I may just end up being one of those game app junkies with my phone. There are many games on that thing that I can get just about the same experience and fun without being forced to pay something on top of my isp. It's one of the reasons why I like f2p models, I pay only when I have extra cash and want too. I will have to think about the ps4 and if I want to enter a subscription.

I think having it for PS4 is the best idea they had, if everyone get a year for $50 and there is so much money coming from it, that means that Sony can upgrade their servers, get more exclusives, add more deals for adding more AA/AAA games for free on PS+. I support Sony on this. $50 a year isn't much and I tam extra careful when it comes to money and savings.

Knowing CCP, I trust they'll keep DUST fully F2P when it's updated for PS4. If not, others are already confirmed to not require PS+ so the PS4s won't be "bricked" by not being subscribed.

But then I realized those can both be done without multiplayer lol F2P games don't have to require it, I kinda wonder if other games can opt out of the paywall as well now. I mean, any game could just release MP for free and opt out if they really want to and just make you buy something on the store to get the full game. Would make sense if you had to have it to sign in to psn, but that would really be stupid D:
