I have recently started a new alt sniper and am so far doing fairly well. I have a k/d of a little above 7 and consistently get a decent amount of kills per game but I am currently at a loss for how to progress my build. I went into minmatar medium for the extra high powered slots(3 at the moment) for my adv damage mods(5% each) and I have the standard tac sniper. I much prefer the tac snipers do to the high fire rate and being that it is 2 shots to kill with either the sniper or tactical sniper and I would like advice on where to put my remaining 100,000 sp. The way I see it it seems to be a waste to sink any more sp on snipers because I will get 2 shot kills no matter which sniper I use and at the same time It seem like it will take forever to put in the 174,000 sp and then 300,000ish sp for complex damage mods. I have the std nanohives and I think that those will be good enough for a long time to come. Really what I want to know is where to spend my sp to improve my game. Sniper skill, save up for damage mod, profile dampener, electronics, nanohives, or whatever you think would be good. Thanks in advance.Oh, also I would love to be in a corp if any of you who respond have one and are cool having a sniper who can in no way help the squad and just sit on my mountain and kill noobs who wander into the open. |

I don't know much about sniping but you should check out this guide.
The Role of the Sniper
Also, you should check out my Guide Compilation for more how-to guides.

I would try to save SP for complex damage mods and more powerful sniper rifle. STD nanohive will be good enough for a long time. These are all my opinions, so I would suggest that you check those guides that Royce linked.
And what I am using when doing sniping is Minmatar assault with 3xcompled damage mods + NT-511 + STD nanohive |

I would suggest profile damping if you plan on running around on foot to different positions.
Also think about flaylocks if you do a lot of sniping from the top of tall buildings. The explosion can make a dropship pilot lose control and crash if they come after you from the air. |

Profile dampening is better for CQC classes (Nova Knifing, Shotgunning). For sniping, I think that you should go Armor heavy (as shield tanking increases your profile). The best Sniper Rifle, in my opinion, is the Charge Sniper rifle. It is a bit tricky to use, though, with a full charge and damage mods, it makes quick work of most drop suits, even high tier ones. |

As a sniper you should start thinking about your sidearm skills. The more kills you get, the more people you will have hunting you. It will also help you if you choose to reposition, cap an objective or run for supply depot. |

That is what I totally forgot to mention. Good point. SMG has saved me quite a few times (not the best choice, but suits for me) . |

Shield tanking does not currently raise your profile.
Profile isn't that helpful for snipers anyway.
Your next set of skills should be one of these:
Weapon Upgrades Armor Plates Sniper Rifles
The armor plates are good because you can then take a counter snipe shot without dying. Because you are sniping, you aren't generally moving around that fast.
Sniper Rifles are good because you improve the sway of your current rifle, and have access to better rifles that do more damage an at least as important, have better scopes. You will eventually be able to add damage to your sniper rifles with the Sniper Rifle Proficiency Skill.
Weapon Upgrades are good because you'll want those complex damage mods eventually. Don't put more than 3 on a suit though. If you have more high slots, put on some shields.

To be honest, you wont see much results from just 100,000sp....Your best line of action is just to save up your SP till you have 1-2mill to play with....With that said...if you must spend...
-work on your dropsuit upgrade (CPU/PG output)...Electronics and Engineering help with that a lot....cant fit anything if you dont have the output
-choose ONE tank to work on (Armor Rep or Shields)and not both...just a waste of slots to have both Reppers and Shield modules and waste of SP...there is a RULE in EVE: u either armor tank or you shield tank but u never do both
-please DO NOT use armor plates...yea it gives u added hp...but wats the point when you get hit if you cant MOVE...rule of thumb, if you want to snipe, absolutely no PLATES...mobility is worth way more than Plates as a Sniper
-SP into secondary of your choosin or get the standard AV Grenades, for those AV's u mite run into, they are very very useful
-damage mods are useless for a sniper in the early stages...2 hit kills are the best it is gonna get...those mods wont make it 1 hit less you going headshot and u dont need a mod for headshot kills
-if ur thinkin of profile dampening...use the skill points to help u with that....ur skill points should be suffecient enough up to level 4, u wont need to add a profile dampening module, just another waste of a slot(u will never get ur profile to the level of a scout) |

I'm just going to have to say, most of this is bad advice.
There is a rule in Eve, but it doesn't apply to Dust. Dust is almost exclusively buffer tanking. This buffertanking is pretty module limited, which is why it makes sense in Dust to run both armor and shield mods. If you want to survive a counter hit in Dust, take shields and plates. At your own pace. You do not need to run around a lot, you spend most of the game crouched anyway. Also, you will be hit most likely, by a countersnipe. Your ability to run quickly is a non issue.
Profile dampening does not help you as a sniper. Not much anyway. Profiles and scanning are pretty messed up right now anyway, but the suits have a 10m scan range. If an enemy is that close to you, there's something else wrong.
The dropsuit upgrade advice is good, but weigh this based on how well your modules are fitting on your suits.
Damage mods will be a help. Even if it's still two shots, they help with headshots, and they help mitigate the regeneration of your target's shields/armor.
Having a decent secondary weapon is nice, but it isn't a primary need for a sniper. If people are coming after you such that you have to defend yourself, you need to move to a new position. |

Buffer tank is a complete waste of time for a Sniper...notice i said the role of a Sniper..... dedicate high slots for shield....u have the entire low slot to choose speed//dampening///hacking dedicate low slots for armor reppers...u have the entire high slot to dedicate to radar precision//damage mods// as a sniper dont gimp urself for the sake of countersniping
whats the point of having all that HP and for god sake if u dont have a Armor Rep ur good as dead....and as an Assualt sniper do u really want ur movement speed from 5.7 down to 4.8(not even talkin bout springting speed either)) seriously??? replace the PLATE (as a SNIPER for a Armor Repair module)... now u say u wont be running around much....are u serioulsy telling me that the game would allow you to be in that one spot for the entire match and not get found out....oh ok, when u die ur gonna go back to that same spot with that armor plate LOL
if ur countersniping and u get hit...that plate wont do u any good...because in every sniping situation that first hit wont kill you unless its a headshot...just tuck back into the corner wait for ur hp to refill then scan again...what benefit is there of the plate then? oh so u get hit stay in the same place(my plate will keep me alive) and try and find that sniper that hit me....u wuld be dead before u orient urself in the given direction

Yes, as a good sniper you should be able to snipe from one spot most of the match. Those who find you out will most likely be snipers, which you will countersnipe, assuming you survive the first shot, which is what the plates are for. Most shots that hit you will be headshots because you should be barely exposed - hence the plates. |

Upgrade your scan radius, upgrade shield and armor for the suit overall. upgrade your sniper rifle! Do not snipe on the open, have something covering your left or right side. Scan the battle field, wait until they come to you especially in Ambush and OMS. It's an awesome feeling when you are in a position where the enemies have their backs to you. Upgrade your profile dampening so you won't be that noticeable. Focus on the arrow of their name tag to get your shots by their heads! |

I recommend getting lv. 5 Handheld Weapon Upgrades.
Then maxing out your SR Operation and Proficiency.
Yes, I know that is a tall order, but if you use an Assault suit, 3x mods and Prof. lv.5, you will inflict an extra 45% damage, discounting extra damage bonuses for headshots, etc.
As a sniper, you really need to drive forward with damage dealing.
I agree with armour modules as a sniper, I use them also.
I also agree that you need a decent sidearm, although if someone gets the drop on you, you're pretty much done for anyway. |
