Welcome new players.
If you are reading this, you have probably realized by now the harsh reality of New Eden. If you have not noticed it, then let me help you imagine it.
You have just entered a universe that is already 10 years old and was mostly forged by the players. The one thing you will find most apparent is the metagaming. Eve Online players have forged this universe with their own time and effort over the course of these ten years which now resulted in stories of epic proportions.
When Eve Online first launched back in 2003, it came at a time when players expected every MMO to be a themepark based game like World of Warcraft, The Sims, etc. But Eve Online shocked everyone by breaking away from that boring standard and created a universe so harsh and bad ass that only two kinds of players are often playing Eve Online. Masochists and Sadists. In Eve Online, you are allowed to do things many other MMOs would ban you for.
Window Trade Scamming Margin Trade Scamming Contract Scamming Ponzi Schemes Corp Robbery Corporate Espionage Piracy Ransoming Extorting Attacking Without Provocation Market Manipulation and Cornering Sex Chatting at the Pleasure Hub Buying and Selling Slaves and Hookers by the crate loads (and then blowing the crates up) Smuggling Contraband
All that and more.
Now here comes Dust. A game that, even though is currently a mess and is taking only baby steps, will soon be able to allow you to do all of the above in the coming years. Some of these things you can already do right now. You can rob a corp. You can AWOX against your teammates during planetary conquest, etc.
But don't expect to be given much in the way of themepark rides besides clearing a few rogue drones in the future. Don't even bother asking for respecs either. You have officially entered a universe that doesn't even respect the traditional rules of first person shooters just like how Eve Online didn't respect the traditional rules of MMOs. New Eden is as hardcore as it gets. And if you think you have seen the worst of metagaming shenanigans here in Dust, then I have to let you know what you just saw happen (AWOXing for example) is only just an appetizer. Wait until you see the main course before you see our deserts.
So buckle up, sunshine. You're in for the ride of your life. |

It's not as hilarious as that one Eve player who robbed his own corp all because he was doing it for this one chick (yes, real girls play Eve) he was madly in love with. Note: the girl didn't really love him back. |

What you meant to say was a Beta male with an extreme case of "one-itis" temporarily lost his sanity for one chick. A scarcity mentality is a bad thing to have. |

True dat. The hardcore nature of this game puts dark souls to shame and only masochists played that game well or for very long. |
