Firstly, sorry about the name, I had input the first name "Heals", was sat pondering some cool catchy second name, then my wife walked past me.
Last night or yesterday to be more precise, I created this character with the mindset of becoming a healer/Logi. In doing so I got to run the "Academy". I will now structure a number of boring paragraphs that to the right people will hopefully give some good feedback and also Ideas on improvements. To others a list of what you already know or things you disagree with.
(This is not going to be an attack at the game from a new players perspective, just academy. At the end I will have 1 more fish to skin also.)
The academy has no real education value to the game. All you actually get is some knowledge of maps, and time to get a feel for the controls. I would like to see a "push Gū¦ for a tutorial", Tutorial would simply explain: Squads - How to create and manage squads and the need for them. Squad Command - Only people I could tell have already played this game knew about squad commands Support options - Off map(orbital), for this It was painful, in a match where an Orbi would settle it, squad leader has no comms nor can he hear us.. Vehicles - straight forward, how to call em in, how to recall em. This sounds silly or minor, but people seriously had no idea. WP - What they are and how they are earned .
Starter fits - Starter *****
The current start fits are OK at best, but for a new player they offer no real insight to the actual endgame character fits. What would be better is that character creation comes after the academy. Academy starter fits would be: Amarr - Heavy - Assault - Logiistics Caldari - Assualt - Logi - scout Gallente - Scout - Assault - Logi Minmitar - scout - Assualt - Logi
Giving each one characteristics of their endgame in the form, for example - Caldari logi - 2 high, 1 low, no side arm, 2 equipments. Right now it's called a medic, has a needle and a side arm, when reality is showing the class with a repair tool and a needle with no side arm would be far less misleading, and informational about that role. whilst having an open weapon choice of starter forms of ALL weapons. After the academy your clone is then "Authorized", this is where you chose race. skill points + Isk refunded with a warning of "know **** gets real". The idea behind this is to allow new players(potential customers) the ability to see what race, class, weapons actually are, before being punished for skilling into something that seemed cool. Same would go for vehicles (1 per match) shield/armor tanks, assault/logi lav and drop-ships. The academy isn't just somewhere a new player can land without getting proto pub stomped, It's a critical point, where the need to show what this game offers is a must. I'd be interested to see some stats on how many accounts become inactive within 2-3 after the academy.
I got bored - End( If you wish for me to continue say so and I will point out some other lil tidbit I had in mind)
side note, I have 96k left on my cap after last night. I didn manage to build a Caldari logi chick that can heal, kill and hold her own (for the most), in the actual game. So all this talk of logi's being out of reach were fixed by the drop-suit SP adjustments.
Tl;DR - get yaself some aderol |
