Guys I have had people tell me the meta level is a multiplier for sp, for damage, for all kinds of things. Currently I have to disagree, I believe it is nothing more than a way to label the tier of the item. For example the officer weapons are the best, there meta level 10, there better than the meta level 8 or 9 prototype weapons. I also have found no articles or post stating otherwise by a reliable and accurate source after countless hours of studying and research. Please ccp explain to us in a post or something exactly what meta level is, what it means, and how it applies to the game. This info is currently unavailable and misunderstood by many if not all dust players. I'm very curious and awaiting an answer and explanation to the whole meaning of meta level. Thank you all at ccp... have a nice day. =) |

Meta shows level so the higher the meta the better the item this helps us identify how good something is. |

The Meta Level of an item usually depicts its relative power to duplicate modules of different Tech levels. The higher the number, the better... although it doesn't take into account superior fitting statistics.

Meta level does not deal with any specific attribute. As a general rule, the higher the meta level of an item, the "better" that item is at its role. I will give you an example:
Neutron Blaster Cannon I Meta level: 0 Optimal Range: 6,000m Damage Modifier: 3.67x Falloff: 10,000m Trackingspeed: .052rad/s CPU: 52 PG: 1980mW
Limited Mega Neutron Blaster I Meta Level: 2 Optimal Range: 6,600m Damage Modifier: 4.04x Falloff: 10,000m Tracking Speed: .052rad/s CPU: 46 PG: 1980mW
As you can see, the meta 2 is better than the Meta 0 in some stats, but not all. One big note is that you're getting generally all around better performance and decreased fitting requirements, at increased price. This applies to most all modules, be they Relic Analyzers, Afterburners, Blasters, etc. |

Thanks malkai that source is nice, but my question still stands bc this has not quite answered it, the source is purely for eve. I would like to see this answered for dust514 alone seeing as how its possible that it differs in the way that it applies to the game even if only slightly. Most likely its the same but I would like a definite answer from ccp. And the rest of you guys thnx for the reply's but I pretty much understand and said all that in my original post. |

I have also wondered about meta level. I have been told by some players that it effects the quality of salvage you get at the end of a battle. Higher meta level-better salvage, although I am sure this is incorrect. I suspect CCP has a plan for meta level in the future but has'nt gotten around to developing it yet. |

Thanks for your email.
The Meta level of an item indicates its quality. The higher the number, the better the item often is.

You are quite right in believing that meta level means nothing more than the level of the weapon. It has no effect on anything whatsoever; no effect on SP gain; no effect on salvage (salvage is totally random atm); not even an effect on matchmaking; nothing at all.
Meta level is just a label. |

OK...
so the Dren assault suit has the exact same statistics as the DragonFly assault suit. Except the DragonFly assault suit has a higher meta level Why ????????!!!!!
Both suits have the exact same stats, check it out for your self. Only Dren meta level is 0 and DragonFly is 1. What is the deal here and what suit am I better off going with Dragonfly or dren |

Possibly a misprint, do they have the same fitting requirements?
Regardess the short answer to this is:
"Meta level is a quick way to compare two pieces of equipment and tell which one is overall better
You should always do a quick analysis of the item in question anyways to see if the advantages it offers fits your need best. Don't pay much attention to the meta level as its really not all that important. |

really all it is, is some stat brought over from EVE to compare items. does not serve a purpose except to help distinguish what is over all better. |

Yes they have the same fitting requirements. The only difference between the suits is color. The Dren is brown and the dragonfly is sort of a dark grey or black. Is the dragonfly better because it is harder to see ??? I do not know ??? |
