First time posting! I've been reading the forums for some time now but never really bothered to post. I've seen dozens of trolls, constructive feedback and lots, lots of QQers and whiners. I really wanted to give an opinion about the game and CCP as a player. I've been playing DUST around a month, it's not that much. I've played almost all the Cod's since CoD4, so I have experience with console fps. And I would like to say many things about this game and about CCP.
Many of you complain and complain rightfully. DUST is by no means a perfect game. However I see many, many people complaining how CCP does nothing, how CCP misses so badly on a nerf, or doesn't listen to players (e. g. state of DS). And I have to say, you don't know how lucky you are to have CCP handling things. I'm a newcomer but I can see how diferent this company is from others. I have in mind for example the EAware fail that was SWTOR. Check their forums if you have the time. It's full of people complaining about the game and the developers just don't listen. At all. They don't post. They don't make events in PSHome and answer fan questions. Hell, they don't make Fanfest. They just care about making as much money as they can out of that sinking ship.
In fact, I've read many people and even reviews of DUST stating how this game is P2W and is constantly throwing you a "Buy Aurum" ad on your face. Again, I refer to swtor. If you don't pay at all, you get constant messages like "f2pers cant sprint till level 10" "f2pers only get 1 crew skill", "f2pers can't post in the forums", "f2pers recieve mounts 10 levels later than everybody else". THAT is annoying, whereas in DUST the only thing I see worth buying are boosters and I feel like I can play without spending a dime. And most of all, I don't feel nickeled and dimmed.
CCP is ambitious and and I can see that they are as excited as us about this game. They play the game. They know the clumsy mechanics. They care about the community. They know it needs more maps, modes, tune up PC, commander role. I'm sure they're tracking the balance issues. And I am sure that if they could they would bring everything this game needs and more to it. However from the point of a software developer it is just not possible to have everything and more in a month. Not even in two.
I couldn't believe that three days after the outage people started to complain again for whatever the reasons, when CCP did an amazing job handling the DDoS attack and also communicating with us. We should be encouraging them, not whinning. Its a f2p game and we will have updates, new maps, new modes, PC will get tuned, for free. New maps alone on any other fps would cost us 10-15$? Besides the 60$ game? Seriously. Focus on the good things this game has, if any of you are like me and just feel set free from an fps prison you didn't know you were in. And keep a constructive community, like many of you do, instead of QQing and whinning.
TL; DR: Keep the feedback, whether negative or positive, constructive. After all, CCP is on the same boat as us. And I'm glad we can say the best is yet to come
See you on the battlefield (if I don't get disconnected from the warbarge)!

all the newbs do think the same as the OP, Forums are just another game for us bitter vets to take part in :P.
a good sign the game is hitting a hard point is when the forums go quite normally means something horrid as broken and we have moved onto something else. If we are all screwming blue bloody murder at each other normally means the game is quite healthy :P |

Every game i've enjoyed the forums are fairly the same, most people won't go out of their way to say 'good job' All the SOCOMs i've played, BF3, BRINK, MAG ect, usually unless theirs a problem or desire the just play the game. |

After being here for 14 months ccp has made many things worse and what progress if any is very slow and limited. So if you started this time last year and are still here now you would understand why most vet players have no faith in ccp listening and making things better. |

while i do agree that this game is in no way P2W it could be worse, CCP could have taken the rout of pissing off all EVE and Dust players by making a micro transaction market where it was pay to win. BTW go look and ask EVE players what happened when they just suggested at micro transactions, EVE players went up in arms and CCP listened! Yes we are very lucky to have CCP developing dust and thinking of players first and making this free to play. As for updates and im assuming the do the same thing with dust as they do with EVE where there is a new expansion/major update once every 6 months, i do have to agree that CCP does need to be more transparent and more involved with the Dust community like they are with EVE. Honestly IMO this game has come a long way from start and for the better, with each new release of an update or expansion there will always be issues or glitches and there is no such thing as a finished game anymore. Weather its Halo4, Eve thats ever expanding, or what ever else of a game you can think of, just be glad CCP is not charging for expansions and that the arum, merc packs ect are all optional and are not needed to play |

I was actually on the closed beta last year. The game was so awful then I couldn't even be called a game, and I quitted. I came back for the release and many, many things have changed. And I'm not talking about visuals, but actual gameplay. And none at CCP stopped working on DUST either. I can see your point though. Thing is, many, many things that don't translate into actual gameplay are still part of the cycle of software development, and that takes time. And making DUST isn't like making any other game: from the technical perspective, it is a huge challenge. |

Claiming knowledge, wow, I'm not into their offices. However I have read the forums and they get involved with the community, answering all kinds of post. I have watched Fanfest videos, and people get to ask questions personally. They're going to E3 and they welcome you in their party if you want to come. There is an outage, and they communicate better than any other (e. g. Sony's PSN DDoS attack). They have the CPM, and maybe I just don't know enough companies, but I can't think of any other developer doing something similar. I have played many games, some of them MMO's, but in none I've seen the involment I see with CCP. Hey I'm sure they make things wrong, but we are human after all.
As a company its a great strategy. You are making a game for gamers. By listening to them you make sure they like the game you make. If they like it they'll spend money on it. Bluntly put, but an excellent idea. |

Is this for real? This is just probably ccp secretly posting to counter all the negative threads. Anyone notice all th game reviews by people on the interweb it was a coordinated effort to keep dust from getting smashed on player reviews.

ccp do listen. i saw evidence of this at the fan meet in newcastle. even when i outright disagreed with the dev i was speaking to he wasnt offened he asked my reasoning. and said he would have to look into it. later in the night i was fairly drunk and i had mentioned to the dev that i was going home on the metro. he warned me i was going to miss the last train home.
my experiance of the devs is all round positive.
that being said this game is far from perfect its a good game. but it does need a lot of work.
in case the devs read this im the guy who's planning to get married in iceland the week before fanfest so after the honeymoon i can go to fanfest. |

Thank you so much for the post and we appreciate the notice! :) It is definitely in our best interest to make a game that you guys enjoy and we really appreciate the criticism. Even if it's not as constructive as it could be, we are pretty good at seeing through that and doing our best to put it on the plan to "fix."
I've been combing through the forums getting an idea of what the community would like to see - and it's important to remember that we are doing our best! Nothing is as simple as it seems at first, but the ultimate goal is to make you guys happy. So keep it coming!

Anyway, a very good post from Dante Kretschmer! I gave you a like!
Since this is my very first FPS game and my very first PS3 game, I am happy with DUST 514. This does not mean, that I am a totally noob. I usally play PC games since more than 25 years. Remembering my first weeks with DUST, it was really hard for me and I was totally unhappy with the PS-Controller. Changing to mouse an KB gave me an AURUM-free skill boost.
All I want to say is, that I understand and support the long-time-perspective of CCP. I do not understand all the whining and ranting inside this forum, maybe it can be stopped if true age of players would be proofed ,-)
I personally prefer positive and constructive critics.
Always remember, this is F2P game, no one has to pay anything for playing it, no one is forced to stay inside Dust.
At the end a nice thought:

OP, I understand perfectly why there's a lot of b*tching and QQ'ing on these forums. This is a PvP game. And everybody hates losing. Players come here to vent after getting their butts whupped - generally its most convenient to blame the game mechanics for getting owned. Don't get me wrong, this game needs some work. But lets just say that most of the fevered posts, the high emotion and the expletives are mostly people coming here to let off some steam. |
