When I start a new character I always find myself having a grand time playing in Academy for the first 10k WP, the playing field seems more level and lends itself to more competitive matches. However I feel that maybe the 10k wp cap needs to be raised or perhaps introduce an area between 10k wp and some new cap for players to continue having fun and being competitive with their opponents. New players are the key to this game taking off, and the Academy was a great way to get them into things, however once a new player spends his points and goes out into the world there is a drastic different feel to things. Running even with new suits and new guns (the best you can spec after 10k wp) you find yourself way under geared to compete (For the most part mind you, you can do well with skill but if we are honest someone with 3+ mil sp is going to have a distinct edge, and I am not saying they have not earned that edge).
I hope you do not misread me on this point I am not saying new players need and edge but asking them to go against matches of Prototype Logistics suits or what have you and corps of organized players is a little damaging to our goal of retention. I have a corp and know how important it is to have trusted squad mates, I see a lot of players without that luxury and feel they must be overwhelmed by the deep end of the pool, so to speak.
I know some may see this as a I do not like to lose post, I am not driving at that, I am seeking to make it more likely for Dust to keep new players interested and currently see a hiccup in that with the exile from academy play. I would love to see some sort of in between mode where players are left more time to play against similar level opponents and can then move into the world feeling more confident and in love with this great game. |

It's definitely a good idea to keep players of similar levels on similar battlefields. It can sometimes be frustrating playing against proto suits, but I can definitely say that it is not impossible. Still +1 |

Although there have been many post about the balance issue, I'm not sure extending the academy is going to be a good enough fix for the long run. What really needs to be addressed is the paring outside the academy. If you just bracket players within a range of a million or two it wouldn't be so bad.
Furthermore, not only should there be brackets, but there should also be a different weekly skill point cap for each of those brackets. Whereas the lower the tier the higher the cap total. This does make it to where a newer player will be able easily catch an older player but it does give them a chance to be more competitive faster. I for one do not want see the SP system jack hammered for balance, but I can also see that there is to much of a gap between players. Taking EVE as an example, there you at least have high sec to hide in while gaining so sp.
This is technically the first FPS that I played more than a few minutes without loosing interest. The reason being is the bigger picture and the eve like system attached to it. So I myself will stay with Dust (while i am also mining in Eve) hoping that the team will fully realize the game they envisioned. However, I doubt your average FPS player is going to wait that long. |

The NPE (new player experience) still needs work (and I'm almost certain CCP is working on it). This being said, my KDR was 3.5 after my last game in the academy, and now it's 1.5 (about 10k WP after I left the academy). My first games out of the academy felt as if I switched the difficulty from normal to hardcore. I've never had a fun firefight since I left the academy either (the kind that makes your adrenaline start pumping) because most firefights are over in less than a couple of seconds. |
