Disclaimer: This guide is about how to maximize the Plasma launcher. Don't get me wrong, the plasma launcher is a turd, I'm just trying to polish a turd.
To use the Plasma launcher, we must first learn about its weaknesses. 1.This weapon has a very slow projectile 2.This weapon is a one shot weapon 3.This weapon has a spool up time
From these three weaknesses, I have concluded that the only way to use this weapon effectively is to use it in close range. The slow projectile is mitigated by the low range. The weapon being one shot makes it a very unforgiving weapon, so you better get those shots, and the best way is in CQC where the target is big and meaty. I will get to long range sniping later.
My fit: Gallente Assault G/1 Standard Plasma launcher Complex damage mod Enhanced damage mod Complex armor repairer x2 Basic plates Locus grenade Nanohive
When you encounter an enemy, make sure to aim right at their feet, and fire a projectile. This will usually bring them down to armor, after which you take out your SMG and try to finish them off. The problem with that is, after you fire the Plasma launcher there is a slight delay before you can switch your weapon, and this delay was my death many times. There is also the problem that many times, even if you hit the enemy near the feet, it just won't do any damage. At this point you are screwed, and it happens far too frequently. (2 out of 3 tries)
If you are lucky, you might hit them directly in the feet, usually ending in a one shot kill, but I saw the projectile sometimes fly through my enemy, so it isn't reliable.
When you encounter HAV's, forget about those in open terrain, you will just get yourself killed. You need to get the HAV into a place where you have cover near the HAV itself. Once you do, fire a shot, reload, fire a shot, rinse and repeat until its dead. Usually they run away, but sometimes you get lucky and you kill them before they get to.
When you encounter LAV's, this is a serious problem. They are fast, and your projectile is slow, and you have no tracking, so unless they are heading right towards you it is VERY hard to hit them. If you managed to get a single hit, congratulations! Now wait so you can reload and get the second hit, while the LAV might run away/run you over/get to the turret and demolish you. BTW, this is just militia LAV's, anything better than that and you have a MISSION IMPOSSIBRU job. So try to avoid LAV's.
Alright, so this is close range infantry, HAV and LAV fighting. Now what about sniping?
Against infantry, sniping only works on enemies that are standing still and don't know you're shooting at them. Snipers are perfect for that. It also works well when the enemy is grouped up, because there are less ways to run since there are team mates blocking them. I noticed that people bunch up near supply depots, so fire at them a shot or two and you might get a lucky kill.
Against HAV's, this requires pure skill and luck to hit it. Nothing I could really say other than learn the projectile arc.
LAV's... Well.... Yeah... No.... |

My suggestions:
- Always look for possibilities to get the higher ground. Then rain down the damage until a sniper picks you off.
- Kill dropships. By definition dropships die to everything, so here's your chance to do something useful with a plasma cannon.
(Perhaps they should make a plasma cannon the front turret on assault dropships. It's a match made in heaven.) |

Wow. That turd is almosy shiney.
Plasma cannon is all right in indoors battles. You known the maps usually around the B control point. The one with the small corridor with two side rooms and the other one with the strange computer type control center. Either defending those or attacking the plasma cannon is pretty good. Especially if a Heavy come through the door way.
The dicription of the plasma cannond does mention its use in this way. Maybe the Plasma Cannon is just useless in wide open maps. And will find a use when there are more indoor space maps.
Anyway good write up I think you covered all the bases. |

This is of course if we're talking about buildings. If its just 2-3 meters of high ground then yes, try to get to that. |

If you are sneaky enough try jumping on top of the HAV and ride it around shooting it Since most tank drivers dont like to pick up passengers the small turret on top wont be a danger and rather than switching around most tank drivers wont leave the main seat and instead will give you a ride all the way to their red line trying to shake you off It might give you enough time to take one out and if not its still pretty damn funny watching them panic |

I'm considering using one (with a flaylock or smg) as a replacement shotgun for my shotgun scout. = )
Haven't actually fired one yet however. The ability to get out of there while switching weapons/reloading seems like it's more valuable than the extra 120+ hp you'll pick up with the armor. Also worth mentioning, you can run to a supply depot faster if necessary. X D |

There is a pretty good guide here somewhere...
It basically says the opposite of yours, to treat it like a shotgun and dress for speed.
I'm not saying ones better then the other, just pointing out the other playstyle. |

I havent seen many plasma cannons in game but when I have ill yell you they do pack a punch against my shields when they hit. It will take quite a bit of skill to use it to its full potential. Awesome wepob fir ambushing tanks in conjunction with other av. |

This weapon is like a oneshot mass driver that isn't as effective against armor but more effective against shields. Problem is, mass driver already has problems and its a semi auto weapon. |

I know its ment to do dammage to shields but unless they giv it maby at leas a 2 round clip then I dont thunk many folks will specialise in it. |

Its a hybrid weapon. |
