For public battles its important to have balanced maps where no one side has the advantage. In planetary conquest however it does not make sense. Defenders own the surface infrastructure present on their districts, and logically they would set it up to give themselves an advantage. The placements of the null cannons, installations, and a selection of preset red-line boundaries should also be included. Giving corps the ability to control the locations of the surface infrastructure as well as other elements (red-line, etc) on their districts would give a better sense of who's attacking and defending, and reinforce the sense of ownership over the districts. This should be in the hands of CEOs and directors, or even a special corp role for this. Obviously there should be constraints so attackers still have a chance.
This would require a lot more sockets; enough to line up small surface infrastructure pieces to make walls. There should be many sockets which can be fitted for null cannons, so the defenders have a big selection of places to place their cannons. There should be many large sockets on maps to give lots of options on where to place options.
I understand something like this will likely take years, anything actually cool takes forever |

The PC burnout is yet another reason of why this is needed; constantly having to defend one's own territory every day burns players out fast, and makes the game no longer fun, but if we attacked/defended other people's stuff and picked our battles instead of clockwork mandatory battles, then that would not cause players to burnout. |

+1 for anything besides those million times seen pub maps.
even randoms are better. Even on pubs it doesn't matter if it is 'unbalanced' as it is just one game. Like 15mins max. And most likely most people and teams won't realise even after the game which side would've had advantage at all...

I do believe that players that are feeling burnt out have brought it on themselves by their verry own greed. Dont take too many districts and then your players wouldent feel like fighti g pc and pc only is manditory. I forsaw all this months ago . Realisticky if most corps only held 3-4 districts max then your mercs will feel less burnt out . It would also make room for smaller but capable corps to join pc and thusly enlarging the pc playerbase inturn leaving less mercs feeling burnt out. |

Maybe, if not the exact layout, you could still affect where automated and armed NPC fodder defenses are concentrated, and maybe even the location of hasty blockades (destructible objects) in/in-between some areas affecting the flow of the battle for both attack and defense. (eg: your crew has the capability to set up 2 blockades before their boarding party penetrates this area of the ship, do you split the material and troops and block both exits or block one exit twice as hard in an attempt to funnel the party into your now heavily concentrated defenses?) |

Just adjust installation spawns and such to slightly or more-than-slightly favor the defenders. No need to implement a huge customizable system to achieve this effect. Also adjust redlines so that the defenders can go all the way to the attacker MCC if they choose. If you attack a district, then you shouldn't need artificial barriers preventing you from getting spawncamped like you would in an instant battle.
Of course in the long term, provided adequate development time, a customizable system for districts would be awesome. |

If nothing else, the fact that I OWN a District, but still have to start a match by scrambling to take anti-MCC batteries that I put there MYSELF (technically) is just silly. |
