Hello, I'm sorry if this has been addressed before. I have received a few messages during battle that say "You have been scanned" and "Scan failed". I have been using militia level profile dampeners and precision enhancers in an attempt to become a stealth player. Could someone explain what these messages mean? Thank you. |

"you've been scanned" means that someone found you with an active scanner. I've actually never been scanned before :P (advanced minmatar scout with basic profile dampeners)
I don't know what "scan failed" means, but I'm guessing either that the active scanner is no longer tracking you, or that it failed to detect you in the first place. Either way, it means you're in the clear. |

When using the active scanner, it lights up enemy players in its radius.
If your profile dampening is lower than the scanners precision, the scan will fail to light you up on the enemies TACNET.
You will get a message "Scan Failed" or something, and they will get a message saying there was a margin of error. Basically letting them know that there's someone there that the scanner didn't pick up. |

Thank you both. With this in mind I think I'll invest in profile dampening since I can reach scan profile 0 with enough sp and stacked modules. |

You can't reach profile 0.... The modules have stacking penalty
Been writing up on this here: Theory on Scan Profile
I've been considering adding how module stacking penalties add up to show their pure % benefits for 1-4 modules (because really, 5 would only fit on the Gall logi...
Just doing it in my head, with the Complex at 25% you'd get 25%, 22%, 14%, 6%? So... We'll say a 60%ish lowering of your base which at maxed skill would be... 45-10%... so.. 40% of 40.5... Not bad, 16ish scan profile? Yes, you'll be invisible to tacnet radar, but that's within an enemy's scan radius of 10m+
Not to mention you'd be paper thin on a proto frame with no other module benefits. No speed boosts, not much else really...
The modules have a highly limited benefit because Scan Profile only affects you showing up within an enemy's Scan Radius. Being stealthy depends more on knowing where enemies are going to be and where they're going and how to get around them without being sighted in the first place. |

To my knowledge no stacking penalty is listed on these modules in-game. Also the highest scanning on a proto scanner is 8. Therefore, if the stacking penalties are not there I can still hide from them. I will continue to research on an alt to ensure I am not mistaken. I will also read your research Chankk. Thank you. |
