All the battles are the same.
The revolve around 16 vrs 16 players kicking each others in the shin until the other die goes away or is broken. And while this is nice, and totally works, its hardly taxing for the better players out there.
Ive had some really good tense fight but they have always been around specific areas. Defending the compound. Attacking the compound. I think the idea of attackers and defenders is way under used.
I do play Warhammer 40K, and I found the best most interesting battles arn't 1500pts each fight over 1D3+1 objectives which Dust in its present state is an excellent analog for, but rather, those with a immersive scenereo. Were you can 'feel' the warhammer universe on the table.
So I want to propose a a couple of alternatives to the simple battle. Each has an attacker and a defender. Sometimes the attacker as an edge, sometimes the defender. These could be framed like mission from NPC cop[rorations and should remain as fluffy as possible. Immersion in the Eve universe is something Dust seems to lack.
Here is two ideas for game types:
Game Type: Garrison
Scenario: An empire corporation wishes to conquer the base of another. This is usually and empire trying to reclaim lost territory or simply the empire trying to remove pirates.
Attacker MCC: Yes Defender MCC: No
Attacker Clone Count: 150 Defender Clone Count: 300
Description: The maps has a central outpost in which the defender spawns in. The Attackers spawn in an MCC at the edge of the maps. The defender has access to two secondary bases. All the null cannons on the map are locked on the defenders side giving the map a timer, this timer favourers the defender as the attacker has a limited amount of time to interdict the base.
Defender Objectives: The Defender must hold out until the enemy MMC is destroyed or the Attacker runs out of clones.
Attacker Objectives: The Attacker must interdict the base and hack three Control Nodes implanting a 'conquest virus' they can be hacked in any order. But each virus takes 5 minutes to upload. Once all three virus have been uploaded the base falls.
Complications: The timers, null cannon damage and virus times have to be balanced so that thier is enough time for the attacker to get in position and also give a margin for error.
Other Notes: Viruses take a long time to upload. Perhaps a minute. This game would support the use of scouts as scouts it would also give attacker dropship pilots a purpose as dropping off defenders and attackers at the virus control nodes would be a tactical advantage.
Game Type: Search & Seizure
Scenerio: Empire Corporation wants to steal another Empires technology.
Attacker MCC: Yes Defender MCC: Yes
Clone count: 150 each
Description: The map is littered with facilities of all kinds. Specifically ones with landing pads, and warehouses. There are two hackable Null Cannons that start shooting for the Defender (this acts as a game timer).
Defender Objectives: The Defenders can see the objective on the map, thier goal is to prevent the Attacker from stealing the crate of lewt. The Attacker must find the crate. Perhaps it needs to scanned out with an active scanner?
Attacker Objectives: To locate and steal the create of lewt.
Complications: The Attacker can hack the Defenders Null Cannons. To attack the defenders MCC. The RDV is summoned by facing the crate and pressing O (like recalling a vehicle). The RDV phiscally comes and picks up the crate. During this time the defenders has the chance to destroy the thieving RDV with tanks, installations or whatever.
Hope you like these ideas fellow players and CCP. No doubt they'll slip down into obscurity again. Or CCP already has similar ideas. Which is cool. Shows them they are on the right track. |
