All the combat-related stats are identical on all dropsuits militia through prototype, all that changes is fitting potential. If you don't have the proper stuff to fit an advanced dropsuit than you're just wasting it. |

Having an extra low slot to drop in another helpful module isn't exactly useless. |

I would go for the suit for the potential of the fit, if you are good at crafting your soldiers the benefit is immense. |

True, not exactly useless. But if it has enough room to fit a little more than militia modules then I'd still say you're better off upgrading those first then the suit. I mean, I would never tell someone to level up to prototype first and foremost just so they can stack more militia shield extenders and whatnot. Just my opinion. |
