Hello
I suggest a tool that will be the same as the repair tool in application and design but instead, the enemy is the one you apply it to. While you have it on them, just as if you where repping them, they cannot shoot their weapon.
add an overheat mechanism so it cant be abused and if it overheats you lose your shield and your opponent kills you that much faster.
To clear up why it would be balanced
- The person using the tool cannot actually attack in the same way a logi that is repping you can't attack
- The user is vulnerable to attack just like the person you are applying ecm to
- the beam can be interrupted just like the beams of a repair tool
- Any logi knows that applying reps is a bit challenging because they don't start right away. You have to keep your target pointed for a good half second for it to take. same mechanic could apply here
- This will not be as viable against lots of people because while you ECM 1 the others are shooting you
- The person applying ECM has to be in the thick of the engagement
How CCP can achieve This
- Copy the repair tool
- Change parameter so that instead of applying it on friends it's applied on enemy
- Change color of the beam
- change distance the beam can engage in
- Apply overheat code from laser rifle
- change properties and stats of the overheat damage to that of flux grenade damage
- When beam is being applied make coding of weapon change to empty and when it's not applied make it change back.
- Test it out.

I'm hoping there will be more than one ECM equipment item, so I frown upon the name which suggests this would be the only one. Otherwise, I like the idea of its function |

Why not just add a grenade with this effect, the reason why I don't see this to be a tool is because you would have to get close to activate it, and unless your a scout I will probably detect you. |

While it sounds neat, I'm not sure if I would like the effects it would have on gameplay. This device would essentially trivialize heavies. Just have one person use this while the other goes to town killing the heavy. Heavies wouldn't even have the option of escape since they are slower than everybody else. |

Very true but remember that DUST is played by a team and as such there is not guarantee that the person next to the heavy wont kill the guy using the tool on the heavy. Also The overheat mechanism I mentioned is to avoid exaggerated use. So lets say you can only disrupt him for 3 seconds until it blows p in your face so that's an effective 2.5 seconds if you don't want it to blow up. Then there is the matter of cooling down, it has to cool down before you use it again; Think active scanner tool. |

If it only stops them for 3 seconds, I doubt many would find it worth it. They are going to have to switch to it, use it, then switch back to their gun once it nearly over heats to finish off the tank and/or heavy. It would probably be faster to just have both attack.
And even then it carries the risk of being used to shut down people with charge only weapons.
P1 starts charging their forge gun P2 uses the ECM tool for a half a second P1 loses their charge *repeat until P1 pulls out sidearm or dies* |

Added grenade Idea which makes a bit more sense and is less complex.
I had this ecm idea late at night and when i'm tired i tend to over complicate things when a much simpler idea was the grenade one.
Remember that the guy being ECM'd can still melee and punch the guy in the face if it's one vs one. The other guy cannot run because it will break the lock but you can. |
