We all know that the word "fail" is used extensively in a lot of online communities, guys. Stuff like: u fail. fail this. fail that. epic fail. People like to call others out when they don't succeed on something and I don't know about you, guys, but I think that's BS. On top of that, man, I think the people who use these phrases a lot are afraid of trying to be great themselves! You see, guys, what got me thinking about this whole matter is the fact that when I come to Dust 514 forums, man, I see a lot people saying stuff like: "I can't wait to see CCP fail!" or "CCP is a fail company!" What really pisses me off about this whole fail movement is the negativity, man, cause you guys know I'm a positive guy!
Let's talk about CCP for a moment cause we're on Dust 514 forums after all. These are guys who created EVE online from nothing just by having a vision, putting in the hours, working without pay sometimes and believing in the product, man! And, guys, they made all of this while working on a game that nobody else believed has a snowball's chance in hell, because it was the kind of game that had never been done before, and they had some pretty tough competitors working on somewhat similar games. Now they're trying to do something new and groundbreaking again with Dust 514. And some of you guys are calling these guys out for "failing"... I don't know if I'm the only one who thinks that's both weird AND ****** up!
At the end of the day, guys, I guess you could say someone fails at making a game when the game doesn't make a lot of money, but the only way one can fail at life is by never trying to go out there on the line of fire, and trying to do something hard! So stop calling people "fails", stop watching fail compilations and most importantly stop being afraid of failure. Instead of that, look at the people who have succeeded (like CCP) and go out there and be successful yourself. |

Way to many are taking a video game like this one to seriously. It-¦s like the fun factor disappears and something else takes over. People get obsessed in some ways. There are so many people on this forum who need to get a life.
Relax. Lay back and enjoy the game. If not then there is plenty of other games out there to look at. Exactly, man, and I actually made a thread that somewhat touches upon the same things you're talking about here: https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=83425&find=unread
Crash Monster wrote:Nice post Ric. It's always easier to destroy something than to create something. Since many folks here don't have any hope of being able to create something they will work to tear down the efforts of others to make themselves feel better.
Yeah, man, I think part of the problem also is that when some people actually succeeds at something, a lot of people think that they had some kind of advantage that they don't. Like money or people they knew. Then they go "Oh if I had that and that, I'd do it even better! It's no big deal!" Guys, let's face it: Most of us who are in these forums are basically playing the game of life on easy mode. We have all the tools at our disposal and we have more opportunities than most people in this world will ever have!

The negativity is getting insane. Constructive critism is good but all this hate and waaaaaaaaaaah!!! Is a bit much. Constructive criticism is absolutely vital and we have a lot of that here too, mostly on the feedback and request section. Being a cunty whiner is a totally different thing though. |

Instead of that, look at the people who have succeeded (like CCP) and go out there and be successful yourself. Can't make fun of others if you can't make fun of yourself first. This concept is lost on some people. They're too fragile to make fun of themselves so they circumvent that step and just make fun of others to make themselves feel big and strong. But then, what do I know? I do know that I hope CCP succeeds in the longterm, though IMHO, they need to be more open with the community instead of being open with only certain segments of the crowd (**cough**IRC**cough**) and expecting that trickledown and occasional posts by Devs on their forums is "good communication". Moderation =/= Communication. Good post, bro. Yeah, I definitely agree that CCP could do much better job at communicating with us at times. Then again, that's not an easy job either. |

The Eve folks like myself knows how CCP operates. Those who stick with dust for the long haul will reap it's benefits, just like the Eve vets who stuck around Eve thru it's up's and downs. I remember the days when when Eve Online had a **** ton of problems and people kept saying that it's "adapt or die" nature will be its downfall. That was back in 2008 when I first started. I remember that exact same thing. Now for sure a lot of people refuse to play the game because of that, but it also attracts different type of people. |

SoTah Pawp wrote:Trying to shine some light in the darkness that is the forums, eh? Sadly the trolls out-number these folks and multiply like ****-roaches. Saddens me to be called a troll sometimes and get compared to such squabble. And I rather enjoy my word fail. Take yourself for example - your first appearance about AFK was littered with fail. You brought up women in derogative ways and fought people who supported the idea of AFK being removed - which was your platform. Since then you've learned how to fail less after experiencing such fail - and you've grown for it. Now you can reach out to people without getting negative responses. Fail - not such a bad thing. I'd have to disagree with that, bro. My posts have always resonated with the crowd out there who post less, but still read these forums sometimes. If you go and read the stuff that I write to other peoples' threads, man, essentially the same stuff, and I get hammered by the OP and their supporters. The fact of the matter is that the common dude doesn't even bother to look deeper into most threads because they know for a fact that MOST people out here don't know how to have a conversation properly, so it turns into a troll fest or a flame war. People don't like that so they prefer to find the threads where the OP makes sense.
However I do get appreciated when I make my own thread about the stuff, and if I ever decided to make a full thread about said AFK farming or whatever post I've made over time, I can guarantee that the post would resonate with the larger crowd out there. |
