Hi guys, I've tried and tried but I think there's just too many variables for me to get my head around. I've only just found out that there are race bonuses!
I have three character slots. I want to have a sniper class, Heavy class (tank?) and possibly a scout so I can tear around flanks and drop respawn points.
So, I would like to ask what the "best" combination of races, suits and upgrades etc to produce the optimum character would be.
Any advice is appreciated as I am completely lost here. Now I understand how oap's feel about computers... |

I think you misunderstand the race thing. In reality, what race you start off with doesn't make a difference. Rather, it's the racial suit that you wear that gains the bonus, and the skills for that racial suit. Like how there's a gallente scout and minmatar scout suit. Each has their own specific bonus in addition to the general scout suit bonus. |

So a minmitar would get an extra bonus using a minmitar suit? |

For a sniper, I use my Caldari assault. More room to breathe for my fittings and available space for two damage mods and a few scan precision enhancers on the high slots and profile dampeners on the low slots and nanohives for equipment. Rifle of choice usually goes to the charged sniper rifle, but I sometimes use tactical sniper rifles as well. A scout suit can work too, which others will likely tell you is ideal for the scan precision, range, and profile. I won't tell you any different. The only reason I use an assault suit for sniping is because I'm skilling into an alternative weapon choice on this character for added versatility now that my go-to fitting is fleshed out barring CPU/PG optimization.
Scouts are also great flankers, but once you're found, you won't have much health to keep the fight up so you'll have to be quick. For that, a kinetic catalyzer will do trick to increase your sprint speed. You can either go load with a shotgun, quiet and stealth hugs with nova knives (which minmatar scouts get a bonus to) or ranged hit and runs with either a burst or tactical assault rifle. I've heard SMG scouts are pretty great to. Stick that in your light weapon slot, knives in your side arm slot, and a few side arm damage mods in your highs, and both will get a decent boost to damage. If I were to go SMG scout, I'd pick the breach variant. Slower rate of fire with higher damage. The only problem is you'll be restricted to CQC. There's a lot of ways you could go with a flanking scout. Shotguns are more popular, but more often than not, what isn't expected is the most effective. Considering now we don't have to fully charge knives to hit someone, I've been seeing them more and more. I even picked them back up for my assault suit.
Tanks... I unfortunately know very little about. |

The passive bonus is more like an additional perk to using the suit you put SP into. It has nothing to do with your chosen race. |

That's the understatement of the decade.

Like DigiOps says, it has nothing to do with your race. Each suit (e.g assault, heavy, scout) has multiple racial variants (i.e. Minmatar, Gallente, Caldari, Amarr). Each of those variants has its own particular racial bonus, added to the generic suit's bonus, which are increased as you level up the appropriate skill.
Again, take the minmatar and gallente scout suit skills. No matter which one you pick, they have the same generic scout bonus that applies to all scout suits: 5% lowered scan profile per level. However, if you pick the minmatar skill to level up, that also has an additional bonus of 5% melee and nova knife damage per level, but only applies to minmatar scout suits. If you level up the minmatar scout suit skill, but use a gallente scout suit, you will only get the generic 5% scan profile reduction bonus, not the melee bonus.
Though that doesn't matter, cuz in order to actually wear gallente scout suits you actually have to level up the gallente scout skill - you can only unlock racial suits that are tied to that racial skill. The generic 5% scan profile reduction is just to say, "No matter what racial scout suit you get, it's still a scout suit, so you're gonna get this bonus regardless." The racial bonus is just the icing on the cake to make that racial variant stand out more and have it more specialized.
Again, there's no ties to which race you choose at the beginning. You can be like me that's an amarr but going up Minmatar light and then scout suit path. There's no benefit nor detriment to what race you pick.
