Dust 514 App I have been talking with a few of my fellow dust buddies and we all have the same opinion that a dust app for our mobile devices be they tablets or ipads , android phones or iphones would be awesome. The app could be used for any number of functions like the ones listed bellow.
1)Keeping up with current updates and Devposts/blogs all in one place.
2) Possibly managing your fittings and skills from your device and vewing your fits .
3)Keeping up with your stats .
4)Ability to purchase aur items and mercpacks ect on the go.
5)Corp directors and ceos able to accept new members whilst away from their ps3.(Theres not allways leadership at the computer 23/7)
6)Secure corperation communication (this would provide new social/meta aspects to the game)
7)Abbility to see what corp members are on line.
These simple examples are but a glimmer of what Dust514 apps could be used for and could potentially spread the dust love to a much wider audience im sure these would not be hard to develop given time and funding , off course these apps would have to cost between -ú5--ú10 a sum id gladly pay for some of these features mentiond above. I also think this would bring dust to another and very popular platform with enormous advertising potential thusly increasing the dust population.

This will require CCP to release an API for Dust
see the following thread for more details on this: http://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=859875#post859875 |

Yea I saw that thread but this one is just to bump up what could potentialy be an awesome tool for dust advertising and gameplay. Can you imagine being able to contact your mercs in game when you are away from your ps3 and othr such applications . |

I can imagine and look forward to being able to fab up some software to do fitting on the computer and send the fit to my merc on the ps3 as well. I also see the ability to send mail in some way other than in game as a must have. Typing mail up on the PS3 can be really frustrating if composing corp addresses or sending someone helpful advice regarding fittings or tactics. I suppose out of game mail works too but it would be much easier through a Dust Gate.
There are many out of game voice clients such as Mumble and TS that work well to communicate but lack the portability to the PS3, being able to connect to the 3rd party voice servers that CCP uses for the in game voice client would be nice and may not be possible due to various legal reasons. A dev response on this matter would be nice. |

CREST access is coming, most likely around the time of the Vita app's release. Once that is done, expect integration with EveHQ, Aura, etc., as well as new stand-alone apps to appear. The Vita is one thing, but when it comes to computers, tablets, and smartphones there's little incentive for CCP to burn resources the community has shown extensive aptitude for (hell, the in-game fitter only even tried to improve in the last couple years, and still isn't anywhere near as good as EFT, let alone the superior fitting tool in EveHQ.) |

Is this a double post? We know this is coming sir, just giving feedback. BTW if we had the API apps would be designed independently from CCP's production schedule, unfortunately until the API is released this is a hard thing to accomplish as all procedure calls are easier with a way to interface with the server. The API is the communication tool that apps like EFT, EveHQ, EveMon and Pyfa use to get information about a player's skills and assets. Without this it is a painful process of manually entering character stats to a program to fit dropsuits, a process that I would rather leave to calling stats from the server which is up to date and quite accessible with an Eve API. |

And the fact remains, they're still working on it. The most likely release will be around the same time as the Vita app. They're going to release it when they're ready, not sooner. All the nagging is just reducing the SNR on the forums; we've been begging them for CREST access, even on a beta level that's only talking to SiSi, for testing and development purposes, and we haven't gotten it.
Further, unlike the current API system, CREST will support write operations to TQ, not just read, which means far more extensive testing is required to cover security issues, and that's just in general, never mind before allowing third parties access.
CREST is the absolute last thing you want to be rushing them on, because a mistake here could suddenly have everey single isk and asset you have stolen as surely as posting your login and password to a public facebook post. |

You seem to see an urgency in my tone, I am only attempting to convey my desire to develop the design that I have been planning since closed beta. Chill dude, I can and will wait, and have been for some time.
The current EVE API should not be difficult to implement in Dust but I do realize things take time. It allows read/write access doesn't it? The development of Dust isn't 10 years old and it is getting tweaked on a daily basis so I would expect that your expectations of a length of time to put this feature in may not amount to a definite answer and as for vita apps, they did show a fitting tool for it already. I see CCP trolling us with goodies and it leads to so much disappointment when rather than being 6 months away like some things appear to be that they turn into 1-5 years down the road.
Currently many people are asking for the ability to connect Dust with their daily lives apart from the time they spend in front of their PS3, I say yeah lets do this. I am always willing to beta test a new feature proposed and implemented by CCP or the community. Dream big, plan big, the heavens are not out of reach. |

Given that we know it's coming and what it will have, what other reason is there to bring it up yet again other than to raise priority on it unnecessarily and possibly unhealthily?
As to extending the existing system, if that's not a waste of resources I don't know what is; burn dev time on extendinb a system that's about to be deprecated entirely? That's just stupid, if they want to throw away money just make eve free for a month or two, it'd probably get them more paying customers in the long run than the former.
This thread is pointless. It'll be here when it's ready, and there's no point in calling for something that's already moving at full speed. |

You seem upset about something. Is it wrong to give feedback on a topic we feel is relevant? I want this, if you do not simply say no. Every bump is appreciated though. |

Just annoyed by pointless threads with no value and the potential to make them rush something that shouldn't be. It's not even like it's coming SoonGäó, it's going live within the next couple months when the app comes out and at that point there's little reason to still withold it from the community. |

In other words, it's the reduntant, useless post I call it out for being. Nothing you list isn't being included in the API, nothing you list isn't included in most apps (hell, for news there's already RSS feeds to plug into your reader of choice).
You want to be USEFUL on this topic, instead of wasting space? Make a thread compiling all the things that we knew were coming from announcements years ago, and further confirmed to be coming with the Vita app (thus confirming the API will support them). |
