After spending a bit with the laser rifle (ELM-7), I have come to the conclusiom that the weapon itself is unfit for the game as it is. When using it, you have to be at the maximum range for the weapon to do any real damage, along with the fact that you have to get constant headshots otherwise everything hit is halved. Anything closer than max range and the weapons effiency drops drastically meaning you're extremely likely to die when fighting against anyone else provided you do not have a good sidearm, which brings me to my next thing. The laser rifle's overheat feedback is extremely overdone as it takes the majority of the clip itself to kill even one enemy providing they don't even know you're there. The range on the weapons appears to be on par with the TAR except for the TAR doing more damage per shot, effectively outmatching the LR. I thought it would be a fun weapon when using it, but it's much more of a hassle than all of the others seeing as how you have to be pin point direct, at 80+ meters, and your enemy has to be more or less unsuspecting.
So far, I've gone negative more times than not using the weapon as it's supposed to be, at a range and with accuracy, but the second anyone takes damage, they hide. Once they know I'm there, they (most times seems to be multiple people nearby) rush me pr just use a TAR and completely annhiliate me. That's pretty much the feedback at this point.
The requesting part is a possible set:
1) Increase LR maximum range to guarantee you can get longer ranged kills compared to other weapons (besides the sniper). 2) Increase base damage. 3) Increase optimal range so that it's from 70(ish) to it's stanard optimal range, allowing more flexibity. 4) Lower feedback damage, as of now, it does more harm than good. 5) Lower Sieze duration, once you overheat, assuming you're mid-fight, you're dead since you can't just space your shots like the SR. 6) Increase damage over time during heat up 7) Lower heat build-up
I'm sure people will argue the LR being good as it is, but I have seen a maximum of 7 people (I've counted) thus far that used it, excluding myself. It's more of a hassle to manage than all of the weapons with no real bonuses to it aside from the oncreased damage over time factor. I would love to use this weapon, but I can't. And no, I'm not asking for a super buff to the weapon, just something that allows it to actually stand out in the battlefield. Anyone with any medium range weapon as of now can outmatch the LR. |

Actually, I've been doing more damage to people's armor than their shields, which hasn't made sense since ai know it's supposed to be anti-shield. Most of the time I rip their armor to shreds if I can actually get down to it. |

I still think the Laser Rifle should have its damage increase tied to time-on-target rather than how long you've been firing it. If you change the buildup mechanic in that manner, you could slightly increase the buildup rate and have a far more balanced weapon without any of the complaints of pre-firing up to high damage and then sweeping across the head of your target to kill them in one swipe. |

Agreed, by the time it's damage is high wnough you're nearly over heated. |

Hey, we have a topic going in general discussion about the developers making sweeping changes without A) Taking our feedback into consideration and B) Making said changes without any prior notice at the expense of our SP investments. If you feel that you've been robbed in any way in regards to the laser, feel free to add in your 0.2 isk.
As much of a burning hatred I had for the laser in Chromosome, I feel like you guys got robbed in Uprising as well as I did as a MD user, having my fun niche weapon reduced to a novelty. We need detailed patch notes to prepare ourselves to protect our time/SP/isk/AUR investments. Another day we log in with another unwarranted change as another inch Dust 514 drops into an early grave. Don't go unheard! |
