How much is your average suit? If you are spending more than 100k isk per suit then if you die more than twice you will need an awful lot of WP (over 2000) to make up for the loss of isk in a pub match. An average fitting for a proto suit is between 175k - 350k isk so if you kill one or 5 in a pub match know that the only benefits that the person "rocking" their proto gear is getting out of it is experience in using it to be prepared for PC battles and they are quite possibly going to have a few more HP than your average suit. Shotguns, grenades and forge guns are the easiest ways to take a proto suit out, I should know, I've been killed by them many times. |

It's not right for either side of the issue.
What needs to happen is either decrease the squad size or increase the player count for instant battles only at the least. In random pub matches no more than 25% of a team should ever be composed of potential clan/corp stacking if we wish to keep these battles fair and enjoyable. So either prohibit squads larger than 4 from queuing for Instant Battles or increase the player count to 48.
Not I'm not saying reduce the squad size for everything. If you want to have a squad of 6 and partake in a public match than go do some FW, there's plenty of them open at any given time.
Would you like to be able to go into an easy mode? There is an option in the system settings to choose your battle server. If you pick one that has few players on it there is a good chance that you will be able to avoid the pub stomps that you are referring to.
With the increase in squad size it benefits a player more if they can form a squad up with people who use comms and even better if you play with them often and get to know how to play with them and work as a team. With the previous 4 man squad the dynamics of only having 3 people often left you in a very vulnerable position due to the ability of one person (good player) to run up with a shotgun, blam blam blam blam, whole squad is down.
This also provides a way to have small teams which can work to improve their gameplay by offering a variety and some overlap of play styles (logi, assault, heavy, shotgun scout, sniper, DS pilot). When you can integrate a variety of roles into your squad, it is much easier to assist and complement each other's play styles. For example: shotgun scout sees a group and attracts their attention, sniper picks off the tail end of the group, assault covers the heavy from the back while the heavy sprays into the group, logi reps the heavy, DS Pilot provides transport and covering fire for the group and sniper to various locations on the map.
The people who you are getting pub stomped by are most likely a group of people who have played together many times and know how to function as a team. You don't get proto stomped by inexperienced players, it's impossible, and to build the amount of SP that proto suits require takes a lot of time and SP (around 5 mil last time I checked). Learn from the experience or don't, your choice, I know I have.
As for clan stacking a pub match, is it fair that I can bring a squad of A list players into a match vs my corp's B list players? I would rather play a match with my entire team made up of my own corp mates than have to go in and wreck my own corp mates. You should feel the same way. Do you regularly play with your corp? There is a power in numbers and I feel that we should be able to make a battle team to deploy to the battle so we know who we are fighting with rather than being saddled with a mix of whoever joins. We can do this for PC battles but there should be another option. I would rather see both sides stacked than to go into a match, look at the player list and say "Ok looks like an easy fight" or "Uh Oh we are going to get creamed" <--(I've never said this as far as I can remember, its always "this looks like its going to be a good fight").
I don't feel that the squad sizes need adjusting, but instead the ability to form up the whole team before deploying to an instant battle would be really nice. CCP would need to create an ability to Create a Team and the Team leader designation would also need to be added.
See you on the Battlefield! |
