eve has an entirely passive sp system to avoid the grind of normal MMOs. you can play eve constantly or very little for long periods and as long as you're paying a subscription, you're fine.
dust could benefit from the same concept. make all SP passive, and keep the weekly cap at something like 200k sp. the incentive for playing the game will be to have fun, experiment with what you've skilled into, gain ISK, and to play corp matches and such.
this means you don't have to play the game constantly to keep pace with the real crazies that now have 12 mil sp and just ram-rod everyone. and because of this, it removes the game's REALLY GRINDY feeling (which all the popular reviews have pointed to as a negative)
i'd love to play a match or three with friends every day, but still have the ability to ditch the game for a week and not feel left behind.
but of course, passive SP boosters will still be available, for 50% or 100% boosted sp gain per week of course |

This should have been happening since day 1. The only reason why I play is just to hit that cap. I might as well be AFKing to do so. If this goes through, I won't even have to log in and can wait for them to fix the game without fear of falling behind.
In all seriousness, I'm a little put off why people didn't vote on this path when they offered to change the SP gain from a daily cap. |

I agree, but then besides having fun/making ISK/scavenging equipment you can't use what is there to achieve if you actually play the game? Unless they increased the amount of ISK you earn or something like that. |

people play call of honor with zero impact beyond their KDR...
i believe abolishing active SP gain would do away with a large portion of the AFK campers
it would do away with the imbalance of the strong getting stronger while the weak floundering that the other variations of active SP system would create(referring to suggestions to reward more SP/WP)
even with the current SP Cap, 'good' players can farm out their SP Cap in less than 2 days, and every battle after that, earn 1k SP/battle consistently(forge gun turret hunters are prime examples), for the remaining 5 days of the game they can grind out another 100k+ SP with relative ease before the next roll over. god forbid the no lifers i know who play "rough estimate umm 45 to 50 maybe 60"(direct quote from one of them just now) battles a day after cap, thats another 225k SP above and beyond skill cap... tell me how thats fair and balanced... |

Having to grind is terrible for games in general. People should play because its fun, not because they feel the need to get some carrot dangling from a stick.
I found this thread which is proposing a better idea IMO: removing all skill requirements to use items, but instead make all the skills for getting passive bonuses. It also suggest a 10x ISK cost from one tier to the next to moderate high tier stuff.
Having only passive SP would put newbs at a severe disadvantage with no chance to catch up. |

i feel they need to reduce the skill level req on complex mods personally... somethin like 720k SP to go from adv to complex... drop the skill req to lvl 4 and it goes from 5 weeks to 2.5 weeks or so of skill caps. this makes new players competitive faster, leaves something for vet players to have that lvl5 advantage. though i feel that dropsuits and weapons should have their proto tier remain at lvl5. perhaps this is me imposing EVE onto DUST, but the 20-35 day skills to get large turret or ship 5 to unlock the BIG BOY TOYS feels fair to me after 5 years. |
