So yesterday I went ahead and made a alt to check on the academy, so I could fly some dropship without getting 1-hit-killed. Played 1 evening and then, out if the academy. After 10,000WP, you are getting kickout to the real world.
I had 540,000SP then, or about it. That doesn't make any difference after, New guys will still get crushed after the academy.
I would suggest changing the threshold from a WP base to a SP base, maybe something like 750,000SP. It would give approximately 75 games(depend alot on the player). better than the 10-15 games right now.
Also, right now, a dude doing only MCC camping can get to unlimited SP without earning any WP. Flying a dropship also help staying in the academy for a while, since you don't gain WP as much as other, but a "regular" new guy don't have money to fly around all games.
The academy is a good idea, but need to be extended for new player to grow. In some cases, you don't just plant the seed in the dirt. |

EVE is all about starting off as a nobody and thru strife, endurance, and dedication; slowly evolve into a highly skilled individual. You start off as an ant, and slowly become godzilla |

I am just saying that I don't wan't new player to play 1 evening before they actually go in the real fight, then when they do, they want to stop playing. Why to you think they put the academy there in the first place? Would you go fight godzilla if you were an ant? I doubt it. This is exactly what is going on right now since there is no matchmaking.

This is exactly what is going on right now since there is no matchmaking. there is no skill/wp whatever matchmaking because there is not enough players to do this.. having such a scalable matchmaking would bring waiting time closer to what HALO was..or worst.. |

The academy is a great place but I have had cases where experienced corp members have participated through the invite of a new recruit that just joined their corp, not a good thing. |

Yes, the transition from Academy to the Battleground is really sudden. It's the steepest curve you could ever make. Ever.
I was playing with my brand new Caldari Assault Character, and I was fighting against people that had never played before in their lives. They had literally gotten the game, made a character, set Passive SP, and left it alone for a long time.
As a result, they had gone on the forums, found the most OP weapon in the game, skilled into it, and were a team of unskilled people with GLU-5's, and Duvolles, and GEKs. Eventually, I got mad at these people that have never played the game before, and got in a railgun. I at first just got into it for the WP, so I could destroy the other turrets, for 100 a pop. But then I killed a guy, and later got mail, saying I had no skill, and I was a noob for hiding in a turret and having a 8/8 KDR.
I found it kind of funny, given my calibur, and the way they started the game, that I was called a noob. They must not know I get a 15/3 KDR for almost every game... Poor them. When I meet them, I'll be sure to give them a good ol' EXO-5 round when I see them, with their less than fluid aiming and terrible fittings. And when the TAC-AR gets nerfed? Man, they'll be sad. >:D |

I agree no SP boosters of any type ion the academy, new players should recieve a blueprint set up and work their skills up with that blueprint before the make some regretable choices. |

I think the WP cap is actually the biggest problem. War Points are not evenly distributed between roles, as in people running support will probably hit that WP cap before other players, which means those with less combat skills get thrown into "the real world" earlier than people set up for killing...overall I think its problematic.
Have the Academy Graduation point be based off of total SP. In addition, at the point of graduation, offer a one time respec so people can correct mistakes they will have certainly made by that point.
As a side note, it might be nice to allow people to pick between Academy and the full game modes while they still have access to Academy. People like options and its not really in the EVE spirit to force people to remain in noob territory early on. |
