It was a sad day for me as a Duster today. A good mate who I've gamed with for years who finally made it on to Dust for the Uprising release has had his "last straw" and left the game for good.
And who can blame him? I've played this game since the VERY early Beta (April '12) and the 2 things that kept me going for all this time were the Corporations I've been part of and the hope for what Dust WILL be. But for the average FPS player the game is just a really ugly and buggy attempt at something cool.
Don't get me wrong, the amount that CCP have done to the game and listened to their player base is astounding, nothing short of a miracle from Devs in this day and age.
But we can't seriously call this a "AAA" shooter. It falls VERY short of the mark of an immersive experience and battle/battleground variety is in short supply. What's more, the mechanics have slipped further into slushy territory even compared to last build.
I'm just concerned that the influx of players will disappear because they would rather pay mony for something that is polished. And losing players is only bad for us vets.
So what I want to know is: what are the BIG surprises CCP may have for us in the future (speculation is encouraged, but evidence is very much appreciated) that I could pass on to my mate to keep his interest and get him to come back? I realise it's just one guy I'm talking about here, but I can guarantee thousands of us have a "mate" who just does not get how we can keep playing this butt ugly game. |

However, I'm going to go full Magic Crystal Ball mode and start rampant and partially harmful speculation about all the other racial suits and infantry weapons coming out in the next build because I like dreaming big. |

Yea I'd hate to get them in trouble, but a CPM let it kinda sorta slip without actualy giving away anything. Huge new build on the way that is supposed to change the dynamics of how everything works. |

Same. It would be a daunting task, but it seems to me that some form of free roam (even if it was just hisec for right now) would be a good way to leverage the thousands of planets in EVE and make Dust into an actual sandbox. |

Huge new build on the way that is supposed to change the dynamics of how everything works. I've dealt with NDAs before, so I know how easy it might be for someone to slip. Still bound by one now, actually, almost half a year after we stopped development. Such is the way things are. |

How can people still have faith in anything CCP says?
They spent a good long while hyping up Uprising as an epic step forward. Instead we got a new boatload of problems, with a new coat of paint.
If they are promising a major new build, how can you expect anything other than a new set of major problems?
If you think that CCP has a handle on this type of thing, then you are just placing your unreasonable expectations on CCPs door, which they have shown repeatedly that they are incapable of living up to.
It is almost not their fault that the community expects them to deliver a good game when all the evidence we have seen lately is to the opposite. |

Because CCP made a really good game? It didn't start that way, but EVE is a great game.
And I actually enjoy this game, sorry your experience sucks.
I'm having fun and I'm excited about whats to come.
And if I wasn't having fun, I'd just leave the game installed and come back in about 6 months and log in and see whats up while I keep gaining my passive exp. |

companies have hits and misses. (ie., CoD4, good; MW2, not so much) The stumbled a bit in Uprising, yes, but they have already done changes to fix a lot of these problems. Things like new modes and fixing old things like bullet ranges likely cannot be done in this current build, they know that it's a problem and is probably doing what they can to fix it faster, you ranting on about it isn't going to make it come any faster. |

Where did I say my experience sucks?
All I said is that CCP has a proven track record of overpromising and underdelivering.
You can be excited all you want, I am only advising that you take anything CCP promises with a grain of salt. Because they have shown, over and over, that they have no objectivity with their own product. They think this game is great because of people like you who obviously have no idea of how a shooter is supposed to work.

You are in need of a dictionary child, because you clearly don't know what ranting is.
If you cannot sort out the reality of how CCP works from your delusional everything will be OK vision, that is your problem, not mine. But don't confuse someone pointing out the track record of CCP for not making good on their promises as ranting. Just go look at the Dust videos from 2009, or even the keynot from fanfest 2012 to see how little progress they have made from then to now. Observe the degree to which they promise things that are still not in game, nor even remotely ready.
Consider that they called Uprising a major step forward, when in reality it was a major step back.
People who refuse to be objective are part of the reason why CCP can't produce a coherent product. Those of us with some sense are arguing for progress while a small cult of fools keep telling CCP they are doing great work. |

According to Gamefly, in their "shacknews" CCP told them: "CCP promises that a major update is coming in June, and more updates are planned for throughout 2013."
This coincides with the newest EVE expansion right? So let the speculation begin!
And here is the link to source: http://www.gamefly.com/news/article/219256/dust-514-officially-launches-adds-new-bundles/#.Uad1Na7YHmc
I am going to speculate we will get increased player count in maps 24 v 24 for pubs, new racial heavy and scout suits, and some sort of merging with EVE economy. However, that is just my hope.
Other things we know are coming from Fanfest is more weapons, medium armor vehicles, PvE, gunships, etc...but that can be later this year or years down the road. |

If this Update thing is true then why didn't they just wait to "OFFICIALLY RELEASE" the game THEN, rather than NOW?? This game is being reviewed and given bad scores all around because what these game sites are reviewing is what they are currently playing.
If they were planning on releasing such a huge Update then they should have just waited instead of stripping off the Beta status when clearly the game still plays as if it is STILL in Beta. -_- |

I dont see a problem, this is not a game for the 'average' fpser. The player numbers have been fairly consistent for months. Tgey dont need 50k+ players to be sucessful, it would be nice however.
I also dont see a reason as to why he quit, could it be cause he couldnt 'pwn nubs' ? |

The going theory being bounced around by many players is, they released on 5/14 because it coincides with the Dust 514, SOE was pressing them to release (remember Sony telling people it would be released before the end of 2012, they were obviously getting antsy), and releasing it started the clock on CCP's exclusivity deal with Sony.
If anyone knows if their is any truth to any of these 3 speculated reasons I am sure we'd love to know, but I am pretty sure that if the 2nd or 3rd reason have any bearing, no one will say because CCP would prefer to maintain a good working relationship with Sony. |

I'm actually more interested to know if they are looking into the Unreal Engine 4 and a transfer to the PS4. An engine rebuild on the horizon would only make current players salivate over the prospects graphically and gameplay wise. Also, destructible environments could be an idea. What about improved player movement like vaulting, etc?
These are all just ideas, but alluding to the possibility could work in CCP's favour to keep our current player base. |

Loathing's friend is my friend, and I was actually there with him when he played his last battle. Unfortunately, the promise of new features or builds wont sway him. His main problem with the game wasn't the lack of features, it was the game itself. The shooting mechanics, the near-insurmountable skill gap, the controls, and the fact that you can't walk past a freaking rock without getting stuck.
We were getting stomped hard by squads of proto-suited TAR users for several matches in a row. He told me that in most shooters, if he was going against a stronger team, he would at least be able to fight back and take one or two of them out, but not in Dust. In Dust, he would just spawn, run for a few minutes, and get taken out by a guy who is using a weapon with inherently longer range and more damage than he could ever hope to have without months of grinding. He said he wasn't having fun, and who could blame him, save for all those with the HTFU mentality. But tell me this, who are you going to tell to HTFU if there's no one left to tell beside yourselves?
I think he said it best: They didn't make an amazingly epic and persistent FPS, they made a FPS for EVE players.
I don't believe anything, save for a complete overhaul of the game mechanics which he himself can experience (not simply the promise of an overhaul), will convince him that Dust is anything but a waste of time.

Interesting.
Assuming there is a major build coming out in June, they need to have a hell of a lot more Transparency on what they're working on. Eve Online devs have been pumping out Dev Blogs left and right in preparation as well as showing video content and screenshots of their work in progress.
Dust 514 on the other hand has Fanfest 2013 content in which they said (regarding racial suits) "Soon - NOT TM" yet they're wanting to release placeholder models because they can't have them ready yet. This is intriguing to me.
Considering what was shown at Fanfest and what could be accomplished in a month since then (considering that Uprising was ready for deployment a month before hand but had to go through all of the Sony hoops) my best bet is that the content they are going to release is.......
Nothing.
All that was shown at Fanfest 2013 was concept art and pre-renderings. There's a lot of bells, whistles and tinkering that has to go in from coding, rendering, texturing etc before any of that even makes it into the QA Team's hands for play-testing and it's probably going to be borked on arrival.
So, they promise that there's a major update coming in June..... but have absolutely nothing to show for it. Yanno, other than that -one map- that was in today's dev blog.
I could be wrong but given CCP's track record, my estimations are usually early.. I'd say we're not going to see any "major update" until AT LEAST in the Fall. |

Probably the sad truth, unfortunately.
And you didn't rain on my thread, Tuna. Kinda figured he wouldn't be back. But if one day CCP actually make the shooter worthy of the AAA title, I would hope we could drag him back. |
