do not be disheartened by reviews right now!!
You guys have done an incredible job of trying to make a game that works to your own vision of what you wanted while also catering to many of the whims of people on this forum. When uprising came out with all of its new balance issues, you guys were on that very fast to get back to an moderate equilibrium. Uprising graphics was a significant improvement to chromosome and the skill tree visuals that you added make it much easier to see how skills relate to one another. It must be incredibly disheartening to see the game that you put so much toil into be met will sub par reviews, and constant negativity on the forums. To be honest I kinda think you knew that would happen because you know as I do that this game is an ever growing and expanding. I would also think that it is very tough for you guys to sift through the countless threads about different imbalances in the game and wonder if the player just had a bad match and wanted to whine or if there is something to their rant and then how to tweak the problem. I do not envy what crap you have to put up with. The constructive, logical, critics on these forums are few and far between and just a note, if you just had a bad match and are mad at something it is not the best time to write a formun topic about it. One thing that i also think people miss is that the game is not supposed to be entirely balanced; a proto AR is supposed to be better than militia ar so all these players that are very skilled but also have the best equipment, they are going to be extremely tough but isn't the challenge and rise to meet it the most fun.
For having a Free to play shooter that allows a person no advantage on the battlefield for paying money while for it to be still profitable is a feat in and of itself. You have a skill tree and a skill advancement system that in itself draws players to never want to stop playing, now we just need more gameplay variety to help ease the SP grind.(which i know you are working on) I also wanted to note what a challenging task you guys have undertaked and though the ground has been shakey at times, you are well on your way.
As far as how the reviews are going, the FPS community in general is not used to seeing a shooter where if you are good at math, you make more effective skill choices and therefore do better in the game. You are blending natual skill with skill points very well in my opinion. They for the most part can't see where you are going with the game and can only be short sighted with it as they only have the game in front of them to review. This game really does break the FPS mold and some people don't like it, but so many of us were hoping for a FPS that is more than just achievements like everything else.
So in closing, don't be disheartened, the majority of the dust community is behind you guys but just less vocal. Eve started out as a polished turd with big dreams and it met and is continuing to meet those dreams. The only thing that would truely be a tragity is if you stopped working on this game and let it die due to a rough start.

Actually I think a little disheartening is in order right now
Lets use Rocky 3 as an example CCP/Rocky has had past success and is feeling pretty good and decides to take on a new challenge only to find out they arent as good as they thought when Reviews/Clubber Lang beat their face in Now if you saw the movie youll know Rocky was broken for a while and had to come to terms with his insecurities and flaws and it made him better overall and I think CCP needs to face their flaws head on for the same effect and come back to knock out Clubber Lang
Coddling them and telling them there there dont listen to the mean kids wont help at all in the long run |

I didn't read the whole thing but I think I get the gist (jist?) and I agree totally.
Great work CCP! Keep it up!! A very very enjoyable F2P game and I am very eager and excited about its future. |

I think there is too much emphasis on the 'future prospect' for this game, what matters is right now because they've now got a permanent review of 4/10 which won't be 'redone' in 5 years time. Their failures have cost them their game for now, and until it actually gets into shape, people will not play it except for the odd 4000 cult followers. |

Being a free game people need to check it out for themselves. Not look at the review and say screw that. Those that do listen to reviews 100% and let them dictate what they play can just not play it and miss out, their loss.
I do not know what Eve's numbers were in the first month of launch (Not beta, launch) but I assume they were not super high.I believe this game will slowly grow just as Eve did. While I did say I am excited about the future,I still absolutely love the game right now.Of course there are problems.People complaining all over the forums and even in reviews are ignorant to think this game or any game ever will launch without it's fair share of problems. It is just totally unrealistic. They have worked very hard on this game for a long time and all people can do is cry "why doesn't this work" or "This one step on this one map gets me stuck unless I jump". Are these things slightly annoying? Yes! But there is a difference between reporting issues to be fixed and just outright crying and complaining that a game you downloaded for free isn't working 100%.
Sorry.I know most of this seems ranty and it is in no way directed to you.CCP does deserve some appreciation though.

Dust can't afford to grow as slowly as EvE. EvE had no/barely any competition - There is a lot of VERY strong competition for Dust coming out, and it won't be able to compete with them if it doesn't shape up. |

You're exactly right. EVE still has no competition, the only reason it's successful is because it's unique in every way. Dust however will have a lot of competition, and even the lowest rate multiplayer FPS has more to offer than Dust as far as weapon variety, balance, and number of maps.
CCP has failed to deliver on pretty much every promise they sold the closed bera access on, and I feel like they deserve not only the scores they got, but lower scores for their failures. If the IGN guys and pretty much everyone who has reviewed Dust knew how much of a beta this still is, they would have laughed their asses off. |

I realize that I'm focusing more on the future of dust. I will be the first person to admit that this game as is now has bugs and this game needs improvement. But the fact that CCP is continuing to look after this game like that looked after eve is awesome. Dust Is such an original idea and I hope that it does not die because of this rough start. |

To all the people saying reviews are permanent go and look at EVE's first reviews, then look at then now.
