well, its not terrible, just very hard and frustrating, but the scou life increases your skills, hahaha, well serious now, its pretty hard and we are underpowered in every sense, but there is a reason why scouts are the best players on dust, and no other class has a code, if you meet another scout on the battlefield and both have nova knifes, a duel is upon you, and death or victory are the only way to end the duel, you need to be dedicated and have love for sneaking and stealth, if you dont, dont bother, you will be dissapointed |

Exactly. If you like being very tactical in terms of where you can move, what you can do, then it's fun. If you like needing to really choose your fights and opponents, it's fun. If you like dying a lot... wait, let me try again: if you like managing a small number of hitpoints and fighting at a disadvantage, it's fun. If you like running fast as hell and getting behind enemy lines for some guerilla warfare, it's fun.
If you like having a good KDR, not fun. If you like running head-on into engagements, not fun. If you like being a brutish fighter, not fun.
Fun or not, is it terrible? Well, it's hard. Craptastically hard.... and frustrating. And be prepared to die, a lot, and probably not get very many revives. |

It can be fun, and when it is, its really fun, but other times its frustrating.
Like clearly hitting that guy over and over with your Shotgun and he only loses a quarter of his shield, or being insta-killed by HMGs.
I finally got my ADV Knives last night, but I'm doing terrible with them

Haha! Well, good show... it is always nice to have another scout!
My suggestion, to really try it out, is to give it a go with either a Gallente Militia light suit, or a Minmatar militia light suit.
You will be down 1 low module for the Gallente (you will have 1H/1L) relative to the standard suit, and down 1 high for the Minnie (you will have 0H/2L) but as a scout that extra module isn't going to really make much difference in giving you a taste of what the life is like as a scout. I typically (75% of the time) run Militia Minmatar light suits, and maybe 25% of the time a Standard Gallente.
Plenty of good scout threads out there; Shotty's is a good place to start:

The highs that make it addictive: Ninja hacking a point and then mopping an entire response squad Shotgun headshots on unsuspecting lav drivers and gunners Watching enemies file by you and lurking in their 6 for easy kills
The lows that make my scout face frown: Enemies who spin and ohk w fused grenades and flaylock pistols Ohk from charged sniper and scrambler rifles Walls and steps preventing egress after successful hit n run
Like most of RL its the small victories that keep you going...few merc play RL though so very few dedicated scouts. ;p |

Ok great! I was just about to ask for pointers. So you guys know, my alt character is Krixus Flux. I created the profile but I haven't got started on working on him. This is an opportune time to get Krixus up to par as a scout. I will be sure to look up the chatroom.
Thanks for the responses and information people

Can't speak for the other guys, but my Scoutly scan radius is so, so small.
I do run an active scanner from time to time; though I have to give something else up to run a good one. Surprised that Super Logis don't carry scanners; they have plenty of output and equipment slots. |

The Proto scanners are cool, but they have significant drawbacks. They're costly, resource intensive, and most importantly they appear to have two-three times the cooldown cycle of lower tier models. In practice, I find the A-19 (Meta 5) to be just as effective as the Proto gadgets.
