There may have been a mistake made early in the production of this game the decision to make this game a hybrid of two genres .
My interpretation of the word hybrid : two things into one creating something new.
In most hybrids out of the two host parts more of one part than the other will be dominant in the hybrid product. Like children will either look more like there mother or there dad for example.
Dust at the moment has two parts the first being its MMO father and the second its FPS mother, but which is more dominant than the other?
I think the players, the CPM and CCP need to decide what part of this game needs to take precedence, will it be a FPS with a hint of MMO or the other way around.
I personally think the two parts of the game will tear its self apart in the future once the novelty wears off this newly released game leaving Eve Online to drag its ret4rded cousin around for the rest of it natural life.
Summary: Can the two genres co-exist in one game in harmony or will one have to eventually take prescience in order to define Dust 514. Tune next week for another exciting episode of General Discussion!!!!!!!!!!! |

+10000 to you buddy.
Wonder if CCP has asked themselves those same questions?

I have had the same worry my self but not in the tieing of MMO and FPS, that was what I have been looking for for a loooonnnngg time and there is no reason the two can't blend perfectly and in many ways ccp brings one of the most ideal MMOs to the table for a good MMOFPS blend(limited vertical progression with an almost limitless lateral progression). No the big concern for me is the FPS types they are trying to blend together, Dust is this weird mix of pre and post halo FPS that just seems like hell to balance and polish to some playable level, I really don't have an answer for solving this without completely back tracking on what CCP has already done. I'd love to hear you thoughts tho. |

also while this game has had some issues integrating the two genres most of those problems will disappear as the game matures and has more powerful hardware to run on.1 |

What MMO ? .....no much MMO at the moment. Is more like ;
Metagaming / First Person Shooter / Skill tree progress.
When you see the MMO or the RPG, let me know, because i haven't see it yet. |

and that would be part of the problem of integrating the two that I mentioned above. |

Thank you for your analysis, how about looking at it from this perspective;
should a game try to be good to very good at a few things or be mediocre to bad at alot of things additionally should the developers recognize what platform they've 'matured' the game on so far and what audience they set out to attract or have inadvertently attracted.
When i first heard of dust it was publicized as a FPS to compliment an existing MMO not to become almost MMO its self (but must show traits of MMO to be more compatible with eve), i wonder if CCP are beginning to lose sight of that or have the dev team they employed already lost that vision in translation?

It is no problem...in fact is very simple ;
MMORPG Components
- Active Player to Player market / Trade Center / Player driven Economy - PvE, Story driven Planetary Conquest. - Recreation areas / Bar Station / Shops - Open world travel; Traveling to different Stations in New Eden ( This could be done with a SIMPLE cut-scene, or animation ) - Character Customization / Paint Shop / Weapon Modding.
Just that few things will make the game feel like a MMORPG.... and that is not impossible to do, or rocket science. |
