Well I currently have a bit of time on my hands and since I canGÇÖt play dust I think figured I might jot down a few things that IGÇÖm thinking about with the progress of things in Dust. As most of you know IGÇÖve been playing dust since the replication build last June/July and mostly play Heavy while specializing in AV operations.
Well the main thing thatGÇÖs been on my mind has been the racial gear, especially the Heavy gear but thatGÇÖs my own area of expertise. Now that we have the different racial assault suits and some more weapon types IGÇÖm beginning to see players mix things up a bit even though the TAC AR yellow bumble bees are causing havok. From what I have seen the newer players and those less serious about their KDR have begun to spec into the new gear and are trying to make their ideas work, now not the knock the bumbles who have found a very effective fit and are holding their ground well. But CCP will be changing this shortly IGÇÖm sure, as they tend to have specific ideas for how the suits and weapons work in general, as with my experiences being a heavy player, and IGÇÖm sure CCP donGÇÖt want a Logi suit being used as a primary forward combat suit. So looking at the images which have been released / acquired of upcoming gear we already have a fairly good idea of whatGÇÖs coming soon (not soontm) and we have also had some confirmation from the devs on this as well. So the sidearms will be getting the full racial compliment with the Caldari rail pistol, that should be as described the kind of GÇÿmagnumGÇÖ of the game so slow fire high damage low ammo kinda thing. And the Gallente Ion pistol will be a small damage fast fire weapon that apparently has a charge shot, now both of these should take a couple of versions of the Scrambler pistol off the market such as the Breach and the assaultGǪ maybe. Now this would give everything a pretty good defined role rounding off the compliment of sidearmGÇÖs nicely but I suppose there could still be a couple of variants to allow for some overlap in weapon types. Then we should have the Minmatar Assault rifle, which should be quite similar to a modern day weapon. Then thereGÇÖs the Caldari Rail rifle, which is going to be a high damage and long range rifle. Both of these should seriously upset the current balance of power in the AR/ light weapon class as it currently stands. As most of us know the TAC AR is pretty much the best weapon when fighting at a high level, it falls short in a few very specific circumstances. Now as I see it when the Rail rifle comes in I think we will see the TAC removed (I might be wrong) then the issues of balance will be engineered into the new weapon such as ROF and recoil with possibly the option of a jam/overheat mechanic. These things are what I think will be brought in as they are what I find OP with the TAC, now the SR semi auto version has similar stats although it has shorter range and more damage but has an overheat after as few as 10 rounds so I think itGÇÖs balanced. Then the Minmatar AR will be a 3 round burst rifle from what I hear and will be effective against armour at a medium range, which if keeping to EVE lore should be slightly further than the Gallente blaster AR. Now this should have a good bit of recoil I would expect being conventional tech but who knows.
Then there was art of a Designated Marksman Rifle from the Minmatar. Now this I would guess it will be a shorter ranged sniper rifle with a larger clip, quicker firing but likely bad recoil. So I would see this competing against the LR and Mass driver primarily but I think it might also find a place counter sniping versus the current Caldari sniper rifle. I do believe thereGÇÖs a chance of it being the opposite number to the current sniper rifle but being called the DMR leads me to believe that it might be more useful up close as a direct support weapon rather than a real sniper rifle, however only time will tell. As in keeping with eve lore I would guess it should do superior damage to armour and being a conventional weapon might even have bullet drop. Next would be the heavy weapons but I have only seen a single sketch of what appears to be a heavy Gallente weapon. Now at a guess I would say it must be either an Ion or Blaster type anti infantry weapon, I say this because we already have the FG, the SL and the PC but only have a single heavy anti personnel weapon, the HMG. Now I know the SL and PC are light weapons but to be a real tank hunter you need to have a heavy suit IMHO. So I would guess that the weapon will be a bit more of a support weapon with poor accuracy, high recoil, medium range, higher damage and maybe an overheat mechanic. This is a weapon type that the heavy sorely needs as the HMG while dominating at 10-25m is very poor at any other range and while you can equip and AR type weapon I personally feel you lose too much mobility. But as for AV weapons I havenGÇÖt seen anything although I would suspect an Amarr Arc/Laser cannon will be on the was which will be short range very high shield damage and have a nasty overheat mechanic that will do quite a bit of damage should you overheat, now I say this due to the Amarr sentinel suits racial bonus of damage reduction from overheating thatGÇÖs currently pointless as the only weapon that does damage so far at overheating is the LR which does 50 damage!!! Oh no whereGÇÖs my bandaidGǪ. Now onto suits, we still have 2 more scout suits to come, which are the Caldari shield type and the Amarr allrounder. So the Caldari suit will be able to shield tank and keep high mobility, I think this could be a very good SG scout. The Amarr version will be quite flexible like the Assault suit version with good PG and CPU alongside balanced slots, so you could do a lot with one suit. Obviously we have the full complement of Assault and Logi suits but we might see a few updated skins i.e. the Minmatar suits and thereGÇÖs a chance of seeing a few new versions. I also think the Caldari Logi suit will get reworked soon.
