Due to the number of people (new players and veterans alike) getting their asses kicked over and over on this topic, it needs a training ground post.
As a new recruit, you may have come to Dust with a vague knowledge that EVE can be a troll's playground, and rewards those who take the initiative in using every advantage they can to beat their enemies. This is true, but with one important clarification: CCP are making the game, not playing it. They are not part of the PvP sandbox.
Dust doesn't yet have many of the systems in place to let you metagame your opponents to death, but in the meantime too many people are assuming the direct mistakes of development are part of the system. They're not, and trying to take advantage of them will end up with you getting burnt, for as many times as it takes for you to learn. Whether it's extra ISK, creative interpretations of the EULA, or trying to take advantage of every little market error that pops up, you should be treating these things with a high level of caution, as CCP have no issue leaving you worse off for pretending it took Machiavellian genius to spend a shitload of ISK dropped in your lap. |

Wow that's vague.
Nothing says CCP, or Junk click here or anything obvious.
Should I scroll through the thread pages for it? Is that what you mean? |

During downtime yesterday they processed the Respec requests made by players. However an error crept in and gave lots of players a load of free Isk varying from several million to several hundred million. A few even got extra SP I understand but this must have been a rarer occurrence.
However, it is assumed that at least a few players knew that this Isk bonus was an error and chose to spend it assuming that CCP would only take whatever Isk remained in your account. Same for SP.
However, it sounds like CCP decided that they would take all of "bonus" Isk each player received, regardless of the amount remaining in your account, even if that meant you ended up with a negative balance I.e. you could not buy any items from the market until you had paid of the debt.
Now if you only bought items you could use now then you are fine for a while but eventually something new would come onto the market and you wouldn't have the Isk to buy it. Or if you were a relatively new player with low SP and bought a bunch of race specific proto dropsuits etc then you will not have the Isk to restock your militia, STD or ADV fits.
This would mean you would be stuck in starter fits until you cleared the debt.
This is why you should not game CCP.
And that is why I did not spend any of the free Isk until I knew what CCP would do next. I assumed that they would take it back but would have been happy if they said everybody got to keep it.
The players I feel sorry for are the ones who logged in and found the reverse error where they had all their SP, Aurum and Isk had been set to zero. For them they could do nothing while they waited for the matter to be resolved. At least for the rest of us we could continue to play the game and increase our SP and Isk. |

By "don't bet against CCP" it means that they have no tolerance for people abusing their games or exploiting. They feel no sympathy for FOTM chasers. They have no issue in making sweeping changes if needed. If you wake up one day with millions of extra isk in your wallet, petition a gm about it. Spending it is a sure way of getting a negative wallet balance once they fix their mistake.
Those who are new to New Eden will learn this, they will learn how CCP operates. I'm betting many will start to get it once TAC's and Caldari Logi suits are brought in line. Those who have been around long enough will drink their sweet sweet tears come patch day. |
