Many times CCP employees have made statements about what is the next step the game is going to take only to have that not be true. I remember the first few days of Uprising where the information was, originally, that Vehicle Engineering was not properly giving the bonus to PG. It was than discovered that the tooltip was completely wrong and it shouldn't give PG anyway. I believe (but not 100% sure) I have even seen posts altered after a change of plans. It shows that everyone isn't really quite on the same page.
How about the 6,000 respecs that were supposed to happen 5/27? That did not happen, which is understandable; it all takes some time. The problem is that information is not really consolidated that well and plans change without much player notice. How about the numerous changes that took place from Chromosome to Uprising that amounts to more undocumented changes than documented changes? That kind of thing really should not happen.
One of the reasons why I feel WoW has been so successful comes down to Blizzard's PR. Almost everything they do, or plan to do, is mentioned long before it happens so that people can work to accommodate the changes. Riot games will also do a list of all changes made to League, even if it is something minor like "fixed particle glitch from torches." It lets the player know what has changed in the game they have invested a lot of time into. It also means they are not just blindsided when they get to play the game and wonder "what happened to X skill?"
CCP, I like your game. However, there seems to be a huge chasm between what you plan to do and what we are allowed to know.
Be well. |

I feel like there needs to be a public relations department to translate Devespeak to gamerspeak to prevent stuff like the HMG nerf fiasco. CCP, your intentions are good, but your delivery could use a little work when it comes to things like updates and patch notes. Having some one who can accurately explain what you mean when something is being communicated can go a long way in keeping all of us happy. |

EVE players are given upcoming patch notes way, way in the future. Every player know about the upcoming "tieracide" and knows that every race will have their own Battlecruiser. Because of this announcement, many players are training the other cruiser skills up so they can fly the Battlecruisers later. Hell, players with BC 5 will basically be given 4.6 million free SP. This is possible because the players were warned like 5 months in advance.
Almost everything in DUST is fly by the seat of the pants. In games like DUST and EVE, there must be high Developer-Player communication. CCP has generally done a good job with this; I can't think of any other company that says "Hey, elect a body of people to tell us how the game should be changed." But players are not given information; I believe I have ever seen posts by CPM members that have stated that they needed information. |
