Hello CPM,
Thread includes some improvements over the current WP system + it's further importance in Eve Online. Your opinion is greatly appreciated and i hope you like what you read. Thanks for your time.
Seeing as War Points are already being used for Orbital Bombardments (EVE Side) after a Squad reaches a certain amount of WP (2500 I believe), i think it's time to discuss future implementations of this feature, so that DUST & EVE Players become more united than ever in securing planets through PC.
Initial Idea & What Exists atm:
During a certain point in a Domination match i noticed that Installations were being hot dropped into an enclosed area around a certain Control Point. During my short time in Chromosome i saw this was being used so letGÇÖs upgrade that idea.
End Result:
Eve Pilots Drops Supply Depot, Missile Installation Turret, Installation Turret, CRU, Mech Suits (Fingers crossed) into a PC battle when a squad reaches a certain amount of WP.
The Platoon Leader/Squad Leader then determines the exact location of the Drop according to his/her needs in battle (Drop Location mechanics to be discussed with community)
How to achieve this:
Let's break it down into 2 Stages
Stage 1 -> EVE side
Eve Online Pilots manufacture Supply Depot, Small/Medium/Large Missile Installation Turret, Small/Medium/Large Installation Turret, CRU, etcGǪ at their end using materials gathering from the Eve Universe (PI, Mining, etcGǪ).
What does this upgrade do for EVE:
1- Another Pure ISK Sink. When CCP opens up more planets for PC this will change the Eve market.
2- Makes some Eve Industrialists (not all) happy . More money in their pockets.
3- Increases an Eve Corporations commitment in securing districts through PC since what they manufacture could be the tipping point in winning a battle.
4- Another Skill book Sink.
Stage 2 -> DUST side
Upon reaching a certain amount of pre-determined WPGÇÖs Platoon Leader/Squad Leader orders the deployment of a Supply Depot (for example). Eve Pilot in orbit receives this command and the requested Supply Depot is hot dropped into the desired location.
What does this upgrade do for DUST:
1-Enhances level of communication with EVE Corporations.
2-Squad LeaderGÇÖs gain the ability to make real worthwhile changes at a strategic level.
3-Increases the WP system significantly.
4-Another SP Sink (If CCP wishes it. To be discussed with community). Such skills would only be active for Squad Leaders or above.
5-Motivates players into becoming squad leaders which as an end result increases cooperation in battle.
How to prevent abuse of this system (WP Farming):
Hypothetical Battle Scenario -->>>
First off letGÇÖs assume that Squad A is the defender and Squad B is the attacker. Squad A calls for a supply depot at a specific location (1000 WPGÇÖs are consumed in the process for example). Supply depot already belongs to Squad A so there will be no need to hack it (WP farming on Squad A resolved for now). Squad B pushes Squad A away from the supply depot and tries to hack it for WPGÇÖs. ItGÇÖs hacked but no WPGÇÖs (To be discussed with community) are given to Squad B. Instead it self destructs.
At this point you might ask why I suggested this. Well a few things come to mind: 1-It removes the option of Squad A and Squad B farming WPGÇÖs endlessly. Hack, Rehack, Destroy, etc.. etc..
2-It makes Squad A realize that they will have to use their tactical resources more carefully since when they lose something itGÇÖs an immediate ISK loss (EVE-side). Being a loss more will have to be manufactured and/or brought into battle. Creates supply and demand (Eve-side). Moving onGǪ.
Same principle would apply (no WPGÇÖs attributed to Squad B. To be discussed with community) if they destroyed the Supply Depot.
How to prevent deployment abuse on DUST servers (through countless spawning of installations,CRUGÇÖs etc..) :
Allow DefenderGÇÖs and AttackerGÇÖs to only deploy a certain amount of installations at one time (for this thread letGÇÖs say 3 items can be deployed and active on the battlefield). If 2 installations self-destruct/destroyed they can spawn 2 installations of any kind they like.
How to prevent deployment abuse of CRUGÇÖs and/or spawn abuse:
LetGÇÖs imagine that 3 CRUGÇÖs (from hot drops) are nicely bunched together giving the defender or attacker an unfair advantage over a somewhat already difficult control point. I think I might have a quick solution for this (but it depends on CCP and you ofc), let an orbital strike blow those suckers up. GÇ£Congrats Squad leader, you placed 3 CRUGÇÖs in one spot for just 1 orbital strike to nuke em. Maybe next time youGÇÖll spread them out and donGÇÖt forget to tell those nice Eve pilots that you just wasted a lot of their money, in 5 secs GÇ¥.
More suggestions from the community about solving this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you .
Conclusion:
This thread has some ideas which could be greatly improved or supremely beaten to death with a stick. Either way your feedback would be greatly appreciated in determining if such a system will improve the overall EVE & DUST experience.
Thanks for your time, Heidoukan. |

AFAIK, Something like this is already being discussed, and some of the backend is already in (Seeing installations under off map support, etc). I have no idea if/when we'll see it as an active feature, but I think pretty much everyone I've talked to likes the idea of Eve providing logistical support from orbit as well as destructive orbital bombardments.
From what I've heard, each MCC actually has a 'fitting cost' for the battlefield, or something close. This PG/CPU allows the MCC to manage installations and the like, and serves as the limit as to how many (and conversely, which) installations can be called down at one time.
Chances are we won't see this stuff until conquest mode comes in, with the proper MCC commander role.
But... This is all tinfoil stuff. I could be totally wrong!

Actually, the "Advancing the core" conference mentionned player seeded installations. It was on the far future list (>18 month) and stated that they'd like to allow player calling in turrets.
The end game would be that players could call any kind of installations pending some conditions. Nova mentionned the MCC having pg\CPU to power those installations. Well i remember from old devblogs something about a command node that would provide PG\CPU and the need to protect each node so the power would keep running in every installations.
Just like i remember something about MCC needing resources to keep working, also from a very very old devblog. Even though, advancing the core hinted at a "harverster" non-combat role for the far future that could fit this resource based type of gameplay.
My point being that designs can change pretty fast due to technical limitations or general FPS gameplay compatibility.
Regarding your idea specifically, there's a couple of things to know. Installations can only be called on specific maps sockets so that limits the possibilities regarding where to set an installation.
Involving EVE players being needed to drop those installations in low-sec wouldnt be a good idea. It would be more of a Null-sec feature where the entire logistic supply chain should be in the hands of players, on dust and eve.
Also, it's definitely the war barge that drops the installations as it's large enough to carry those.
But overall. your idea goes in the way of stuff already existing in the dev's mind. Though i'm not sure basing it on WP is the right idea. If it was up to me, even OB wouldnt be tied to WP. |
