Precision
As he sat cross-legged on the rooftop, his sniper rifle cradled as he looked through the scope, he vaguely pondered at the rain falling on the tarp covering his head. It could've rained at least once on Luminaire VII, he thought. Would've made alot of assassinations easier. Through the helmet he listened to a vague derivative of techno mixed with a light ambiance at a very low volume. In a normal battlefield scenario he would not listen to it unless he was running solo missions, but now he figured he could use it. The volume went out as someone came over comms.
"In position," the disembodied voice stated.
"Copy. I have overwatch. No movement on the rooftop."
He watched as a Minmatar Scout Suit and a Minmatar Logistics Suit, both all black, climbed over the far edge of the building across the street. They moved with practiced synergy towards the roof access door, a large metal hut on the roof with keypad access. The Scout crouched, looking directly at the door with a Flaylock Pistol at the ready, while the Logistics pried open the panel using some minor tools. After a few seconds the door opened. The scout entered first, having holstered his Flaylock and pulling a pair of Nova Knives, flipping them with practiced precision as he moved. The Sniper watched the Logistics, who stood still by the door for exactly ten seconds then moved inside crouching low, and he lost sight of them.
Inside the Scout had moved quickly, down the stairs. The Logistics followed the plan, knowing exactly where he was going. As he passed he noticed a few bodies here and there where the Scout had taken down a few patrolling security guards. The target was a single door which led to a vault. The Logistics began hacking the minor security door as the Scout emerged from the shadows, flipping his Nova Knives.
"Clear," the Scout said.
Without looking up from the door panel he was hacking the Logistics responded. "Copy."
The door slid open quickly. The two aimed their respective weapons at the door, scanning for any security. The Logistics pulled out an Active Scanner and checked, detecting no signs of anything they should be concerned about. They approached the Vault door slowly, stopping at the panel to open the door. The Scout spun and crouched, Flaylock at the ready once again. The Logistics went to work, hands moving swiftly as he rewired and hacked his way through multiple levels of security.
"****."
"What?" The Scout inquired without taking his eyes off the way they came in.
"Tripped the alarm. Sixty seconds before it gets hot."
"How soon before you're...?"
The Scout was cut off by the sounds of the large pins of the Vault Door opening. The Logistics stepped in before the door had finished opening. "Acquire the secondary. I'll cover you at extraction."
"Copy," the Scout sprinted off.
The Logistics entered the large vault, rows upon rows of small compartments and doors on the top floor of a skyscraper. He moved quickly to the one he wanted, prying it open quickly with a small tool and removing the lone item inside the compartment. A data drive. He pocketed it and replaced it with a small square device as he began moving.
The Sniper came over comms. "Primary security's almost at the top. The guys we should be worried about though... thrity seconds."
"Copy." The Logistics spun up the six round cylinder on his weapon.
The Scout had not taken long to get where he was going. A small office two floors down with a man who was currently grabbing everything he could after the silent security alarm had been tripped. The man looked up and saw the Scout at the door and reached for a civilian pistol. Before he could even raise it, the scout had planted his foot in the man's chest and kicked him against he wall, crushing his internal organs with all the stimulants that coursed through the suit and his body, leaving a very visible dent in the wall.
The Scout quickly rustled through the man's belongings and located a data drive much like the one the Logistics had already located, pocketing it in one of his pouches.
"Secondary obtained."
"Copy," he heard the Logistics respond with the easily recognisable sound of explosives echoing through the communications. "I'm almost on the roof, stay on your floor we'll pick you up from the street side window."
"Copy."
"Pickup incoming," came another voice.
The Logistics stepped through the roof access door and turned, rewiring it to lock behind him. He walked towards the edge of a roof as the sound of engines could be heard faintly through the rain. The Gallente dropship spun quickly, and without missing a beat the Logistics stepped off the roof straight into the dropship bay as he pressed a button on the screen on his arm. An explosion rippled through the building.
"They're on to you," the Sniper who had yet to fire a shot stated, referring to the Scout.
"Levelling," said the pilot as he lowered the dropship to the large glass window of the floor the Scout was on.
An elevator opened on the far side of the room and the first person who stepped through lost his mind as it would plastered across the wall by the Sniper. "Elevators are all almost there," the Sniper said reading the floor from the Elevator's displays on the floor through his scope.
"Coolant's on," said the pilot.
"Moving."
The Logistics got on the blaster turret's console and began unloading, shattering the glass and anyone who decided stepping out of the elevator was a good idea. The Scout sprinted for the window and jumped, landing in the dropship's bay. The pilot instantly pulled up.
"All clear," said the Logistics who was watching the night for pursuers.
"Packing up," stated the Sniper. "Good job." |

Doctor Kira had a few dangerous patients to be sure, ex-soldiers with post traumatic stress, lone merenaries who had not started out so lonely, ex-commanders with horrible guilt about lost soldiers, the list went on. Still she was a civilian psychologist so anyone could come to her and now she learned that her newest patient was one of the clone soldiers people talked so much about. She looked nothing like what she had expected a clone soldier to be, nor what people said they looked like, all white clones with what was essentially a generic face. No, the lady that sat before her was a brunette, hair done in a tight bun, and stern eyes that were definitely telling the truth. Her movements were graceful, but not the kind mothers taught their daughters. These movements were efficient and never without purpose; a brush of the hand to remove stray hair from her face, a swat to swiftly eliminate some pesky insect that had invaded the privacy of the room.
Suddenly Doctor Kira was aware of the fact that she was afraid. No, not afraid. Terrified. She was sitting in the same room as one of the people who in recent news were made out to be monstrous killing machines with the sole purpose of killing for profit.
Kira swallowed, nervously. The clone soldier stood stock still in her chair, watching her, legs crossed with hands on her knees. She was unsure of how to proceed. She had met with many soldiers, but this was different and her eyes. Behind her stern eyes was something strange, unlike anything she had ever seen.
GÇ£So you're immortal?GÇ¥
GÇ£If you can call it that.GÇ¥
GÇ£But... you don't die.GÇ¥
GÇ£Oh I die... a lot. Over two thousand deaths I can remember, each in vivid detail. Keeps me up at night now.GÇ¥
GÇ£Wouldn't you be used to it by now?GÇ¥ Kira swallowed again, not believing she had asked a question like that so simply.
GÇ£Do I make you nervous?GÇ¥ The clone sloldier inquired locking eyes with Kira.
Kira would have sworn her heart stopped, maybe even turned to stone, under the woman's gaze were it not for the breath that caught in her throat. GÇ£Very.GÇ¥
The woman smiled, more like a twitch of the mouth for a face no longer used to making the expression. GÇ£To answer your question, I guess I should be. I know some who are and others who are having the same problems I am. It's one thing for a regular soldier to be afraid of dying, another to die multiple times over only to be reborn again. A cycle of life and death that repeats itself endlessly like a crazy toy repeating the same words no matter how many times you press the button.GÇ¥
Kira tried her best to calm down despite the fact that she somehow was incapable of feeling her heart. She stood almost stock still in the chair as she spoke to the woman. GÇ£And how does it affect you now?GÇ¥
GÇ£I suppose it could be called traumatic stress, except it's endless trauma. Sure I live, sure I kill others. Sometimes I go entire missions hours long and never die, but then there's every other time that's not then, when I die, whether I get blown apart, my throat cut, my head blown off, pinned between a speeding vehicle and a two foot thick steel door. The ways have been endless. It haunts my dreams now. The only time it doesn't haunt me is in the moment itself it seems, where all that matters is the mission, my targets, objectives.GÇ¥
GÇ£And what do you fight for?GÇ¥
GÇ£What do you mean?GÇ¥
Kira swallowed and licked her lips. Her throat was dry now. GÇ£What drives you to fight? What makes you go into combat? What made you decide to become what you are now?GÇ¥
GÇ£At first it was the promise of immortality for me. Then the vast amounts of ISK to be made. Now? I don't know. For me the ISK isn't enough, all it does is serve to get me more gear to fight with. It's not enough.GÇ¥
GÇ£Looks like you need a reason to fight. Even a reason to dream. Something you find that you're willing to...GÇ¥ Kira cut off her statement before she finished it, but the woman finished it for her.
GÇ£... Put my life on the line for?GÇ¥
GÇ£In a manner of speaking. Something that for you would make all the pain and deaths work it.GÇ¥
GÇ£And where do you suppose I look for this purpose?GÇ¥
GÇ£That is something I can't tell you honestly. It's up to you what purpose you seek and where you find it. No matter what it is, when you find it, you'll know, because the deaths will stop mattering to you.GÇ¥
The woman seemed to be thinking, but her eyes remained on Kira, calculating. GÇ£I suppose you're right,GÇ¥ she said finally after a few moments of silence.
The alarm went off, indicating the end of their session. GÇ£That indicates the end of our session,GÇ¥ stated Kira, nowhere near confidently enough.
GÇ£Thank you,GÇ¥ the woman said rising, finally taking her eyes off of Kira. Kira felt her heart once again and the will to move returned to her. GÇ£I guess I'll have to search for my purpose then.GÇ¥
GÇ£I wish you luck in finding it.GÇ¥
GÇ£Thank you. I'll transfer the ISK for the session to your account.GÇ¥
Kira nodded. As the woman reached the door she stopped her with one final statement. GÇ£You never told me your name.GÇ¥
GÇ£It's Euryale.GÇ¥ |

Thanks for telling me what you guys think. I really appreciate feedback.
Straum, I really hope we do get to that point with some neat little side missions like this. Maybe stuff like this for some factional warfare.
If it's a theme people would like to see continued, and have Dr. Kira as a recurring character, (scenario won't be the same constantly obvsiously), I'm willing to do some work on it, Marlow
As it stands I'm working on another story, so stay tuned. |

Curse and Blessing Part I
The ship rumbled lowly, a sound that often faded to the background within the first few days of space travel. To and fro across the ship the crew worked, following the capsuleer's orders to the letter and without hesitation. The ship, an Amarr freighter on its way to a corporation's headquarters on the fringes of Amarr space, carried a full cargo hold, crates and containers full of merchandise, production components and even some illegal contraband.
Of particular note in this ship's most recent acquisitions at its last stop was a small group of soldiers and their equipment, which in itself was not particularly interesting, were it not for the fact that among their equipment was enough gear to field a small army.
The crew avoided these men clad in Amarr Armor as though they were the most dangerous plague discovered in the entirety of New Eden. The soldiers seemed not to mine, apparently going out of their way to make their presence as inconsequential as possible, keeping to themselves quite close to their equipment in the hold.
One soldier, the one who seemed in charge of the group, stood by a window, hands behind his back gazing into the abyss that shot by as they warped through the fringes of Amarr space. His mind on the path before him, he closed his eyes, whispering a small prayer wishing for the strength to lead both himself and the men who followed him through.
As he opened his eyes he took a quick step black, something appearing on the window then disappearing quickly. He pinched his nose bridge and closed his eyes tightly. When he reopened them, there was nothing but the blackness of space once again. He took a deep breath and walked back to his followers. They would be arriving at their destination soon.
The capsuleer had been just as nonchalant dropping them off as he had been picking them up and freighting them, thanking them in as few words as possible for their ISK and then departing as quickly as possible. The planet was low sec with a few minor factions skirmishing on the planet for its resources, a place where, if they operated as under the radar as possible, they could hide and plot their next move.
They selected a spot on a fairly large continent, somewhat out of the way of the main battlefields, having paid a few million isk to have their equipment and components shipped to the location. For a few days they worked setting up their small base, with assistance from a paid workforce from one of the corporations. They made sure to pay more than enough for them to keep their silence. With dense canopy overhead and a few minor signature dampeners they were hidden from anyone casually checking the area.
The leader of the group stood in a watchtower with one of his other soldiers, scanning the area. The darkness seemed alive, real and clinging to the trees. With each rustle of a wildling in the hidden shrubbery the darkness breathed, extending towards just outside the edge of their spotlights and then receding back into the forest.
GÇ£What's the news been Anor?GÇ¥
The voice brought the leader out of deep thought. His eyes staying on the darkness, he responded. GÇ£The same as always,GÇ¥ he stated, remembering what the broadcasts being pread persistently throughout New Eden stated. GÇ£Empress Jamyl is adamant that we are permitted to rejoin her. Of course we know about the deadline as well.GÇ¥
GÇ£We know what they're capable of Anor. What we're capable of. They will come for us.GÇ¥
GÇ£I'm not sure we should go.GÇ¥
GÇ£Null sec is an option.GÇ¥
GÇ£One I'm not particularly fond of.GÇ¥
GÇ£An option nonetheless.GÇ¥
Anor sighed, the burden of leadership weighing heavily on his shoulders.
He blinked suddenly, seeing tendrils of darkness creeping into the light of their small facility. It formed a shape, a thick oozing shadow rising off of the ground. His eyes locked on it. It formed a human figure, that of a child no taller than eight or nine with thin hair. The shadow that formed the figure flowed, like thick oil slowly moving across a surface. Eventually it finished taking shape. A young girl. It sent him into a memory he tried constantly to forget.
It had been a minor uprising of Minmatar slaves they were supposed to snuff out. Since they refused to lose lives to it, they sent them in, the immortals, to solve the problem. Hours of gunning down the angered Minmatar as they threw whatever makeshift weaponry they had at them. Eventually they stumbled across a group of them, hiding out underground. The men and some women instantly rose up and fought when they were discovered. Anor had heard the order come through clearly through comms. GÇ£Kill them all.GÇ¥
Amarr weaponry cut them down quickly and as the beam of Anor's Laser Rifle cut through the flesh and bone of the slaves he saw her late. A child hunched over a collapsed figure in the midst of the gunfire pushing it and urging it to get up. Anor's Laser Rifle took her arm off first and through all the gunfire and screams, her scream was deafening deafening to him. His blood froze in his veins. A round from a Scrambler Rifle impacted her head and unlike most weapons it did not split her skull. Rather there was something resembling a burn mark where the round had impacted her. Her eyes rolled into her head and she collapsed, foaming a little at the mouth.
The memory abruptly ended, bringing Anor back observing the shadow. His partner in the watchtower was looking in the other direction. Anor shook his head, then watched as the oily shadow's arm severed and dropped off. It opened its mouth to scream. Light poured from its maw threatening to consume him with a blinding abyss. Suddenly the light stopped, its mouth dripping the black ooze as a small hole of light appeared in its skull. As the shadow dissolved, melting back into the shadow and darkness it said something to him, ooze still dripping from its mouth.

Curse and Blessing Part II
GÇ£You are our right hand, the will of God. You are our sword and our shield, our vanguards and our sentinels. You will face our enemies wherever they stand and you will strike them down swiftly. Your foes shall know no mercy and they will fear you always.GÇ¥
The Empress's words rang through with all of them in the small room. They looked up to her on the pedestal as she oversaw with her own eyes the beginning of a new era of warfare. The soldiers stood, line by line, row by row, with a new piece of technology afixed to their heads. A bulky peculiar thing it weighed heavily on their heads. None knew exactly what would happen, but the Empress had called for faithful soldiers and they had come, ready and at her call. Before each of them was a small podium with a flat face. The sigil of the Empire adorned it.
Jamyl's next words were quoted directly from the book of Reclaiming. GÇ£I give to you the destiny of Faith, And you will bring its message to every planet of every star in the heavens: Go forth, conquer in my Name, and reclaim that which I have given.GÇ¥
At this point the flat face bearing the Amarrian sigil slid open revealing beautifully adorned pistols. GÇ£You have fought many battles and gone through many hardships, now I ask you, shed your mortal body that your spirit may soar and you may become closer to God.GÇ¥
Arvek took up the pistol lightly. Many questions pulsed through his mind, the most prominent being, what madness is this? The first shot rang out. A body slumped to the ground, the scrambler weapon's burn visible in the side of his head.
How loyal was he to the Empire. Was he as loyal as the first one to so readily take his life? It was one thing to risk one's life for the Empire and another to actually take it yourself.
Another shot.
Had Jamyl lost her mind?
Another, then another. They were picking up the pace now. Jamyl watched over them.
A short stacatto of gunfire rang out as more took their life in unison, making the ultimate decision.
I came here, because I am loyal, he thought. It is the will of God that I do this.
He put the Scrambler Pistol to the side of his skull and pulled the trigger.
Arvek awoke to the faint rumble of the Amarrian frigate. The gold glow of the room's aesthetic adornments greeted him and he rose, rubbing the spot where he had shot himself in the head a year ago. The burn was of course not on this body, himself having been killed multiple times over since then and constantly awaking in a new clone.
It had been a long time since he had bothered to remember that time, yet he constantly remembered it through his dreams lately. The first time it had returned was when the Empress had made her desire to have any of those with first generation implants killed if they were not at her side.
Arvek stood and dressed lightly, the need for armor having not yet arisen. He made his way to the ship's viewing platform where he stood and gazed into space. He allowed his mind to mull over his mission, finding his mind almost saddened by his hunting of the wayward Templars.
They had taken a large store of military equipment and managed to vanish. The hunt for them had started slowly, trying to figure out how they managed to make millions of ISK worth of infantry gear, equipment and preconstructed facilities disappear almost without a trace. Their last lead came from a customs officer who, after a few seconds alone with their interrogation expert, was quite talkative.
Now they were on their way to a fairly remote location, checking every station along the way for anywhere the ship had stopped between the station they had gotten the information from and its logged destination. It was only a matter of time until they found them. Arvek knew there was no way the wayward Templars would escape. They would not allow them to.
After searching for a long period of time, every station of every planet in every system they passed they happened upon a lucky break, finding where the ship had docked and apparently off loaded some cargo. It was unknown what the cargo was, a common thing among many stations. The Amarrian capsuleer of the ship they were on unloaded them and their gear and they were ferried to the planet's surface by a paid corporation.
The search for them on the planet's surface was a bit more intensive than they had initially suspected. After setting up a forward operating base they began some very extensive scans of the planet, using the capsuleer hovering in orbit to aid them. After a single day it was obvious they had to be using signature dampeners. A change in their approach would be required.
Arvek took a few men to each of the factions competing on the planet in an effort to see if any of them knew of the hiding Templars. It took almost an entire day and the patient torturing of three individuals, two of which actually knew nothing when they said they did, though two hours of torture to make sure they truly knew nothing about the Templars did not go amiss.
A small team of soldiers, fitted with the most effective profile dampeners they had, were dispatched to check the co-ordinates the tortured man had screamed to them. The jungle was dense and stifling, even through their suits and the need to maintain prevented them from cutting down the foliage in their path.
Arvek stopped them near the co-ordinates and indicated for them to creep slowly forward. It was the dead of night and the spot lights of the facility were shining on the open ground between the forest and the facility's walls with two scanning the foliage on every side of the facility. Arvek saw one of the renegades walking the wall, his gait familiar.
GÇ£Sorry, Anor,GÇ¥ Arvek mouthed underneath his helmet. GÇ£Get as much surveillance as you can," he said out loud in his comms. "I want to have a plan of attack by tomorrow." |
