i've always wondered why. when i was growing up everyone said gays were responsible for aids. tn highschool they taught us something else.
when i donate plasma they ask if you have ever had sex with another male even once. it seems they have something against it. does it ruin your blood? girl on girl seems to be ok, they do not ask chicks |

Younger gay males tend to have higher rates of blood borne STDs. It comes down to statistical blah blah. If you've been in jail you can't donate either. Probably, for similar reasons. IF you've been to Britain during the mad cow era you can't give blood either. I visited croatia, and they had to pull out their special book of country by country guidelines as to whether a person who has visited, when, and for how long can donate. Croatia, as it turns out, is fine to visit.
Is it lame that gay dudes can't donate? In this day and age, yes. But then again, I assume the medical pros know what they are doing in minimizing risks of infection and don't hate gay people. But I also think testing of blood for safety isn't always 100%, especially in times of crisis where blood is in short supply and donations are coming in and being used as quickly as they can. |
