To start out, the first step on the ladder rung as a potential lead would be a strong, over the top squad leader. Squad leader? Yes, you need to be able to take a squad into your match and command authority. Tell them what you want, expect, and give solid commands on what/how to complete the mission. If a player ignores/refuses such order and commands, that is information that needs to be relayed to the top anyways, as that person is obviously someone that we cannot depend on in pc battles that count. Now I just dropped that a leader has to be a rat? Well I could sugar coat things all day long, but it is not in me. Leaders make choices and decisions off of other leaders experience and choices. If a player doesn't make the cut, it needs to be known. Grow a hard stomach, and make the real calls. A person that has responsibility has to make calls, no matter if it upsets people they like/love to do what is right for the good of the success of STB. There are other routes to take before you call someone out like this too. Address the individual, let him know his short comings, and work to improve of them. If you call a guy out first but never try to correct the issue, you yourself become the rat.
After being a squad lead for a time, and helping players to better themselves, as well as the good of STB, at this point you are a leader, but still have some miles to cover. By this point, you should have many people that you have helped tutor, many squad lead battles that you were in full control over, and now most importantly, feel confidence as well as satisfaction in your actions to this point. Another guiding light is that you should have built up alot of isk too. Isk control in itself shows that you are smarter than the average, and now can if need be, "put your money where your mouth" is. At this point by playing with a wide diversity of our members, you should realize the political aspect of what true leadership is about.
At this stage, you now have the financial ability, as well as the political backing to push to the next step. Its is time to step up. Now is the time to ask for that FC spot. Granted it takes alot of isk, and if you really cant afford it, then use your political standings to get donations for your well thought out process. This is also a great gauge tool to see if people think your are the leader that you want to be. If you succeeded to this point, push on, and there will be nothing in your way to the top. FC a battle, push onto bleeding your knowledge onto this forum, than maybe, well that's is all. Maybe. |
