So, from what I hear the Academy has been a success. New players get a chance to cut their teeth on game mechanics and SP allocation in a not-uber-competitive-HTFU-environment. The issue now is that after 10k WP, we are back to the same matchmaking and gear differential issues we have always had to suffer.
In previous threads, I've seen suggestions where game modes could be divided into Meta Level restrictions on Dropsuits, Vehicles, Weapons, Grenades, Equipment, and Modules used in the battle. In, say a Advanced Meta match, the match would only allow you spawn with gear of Meta Level 3 or less. This could be scaled to all levels (a 0 meta level for all Militia equipment would be hilarious), and it would create an option for those wishing to play in an arena not filled with kitten killers. Squads of vets with lots of SP in passive skills would still have a huge edge, but it would create some sense of fairness for newer players and create an opportunity to put your "A game" gear away for a while.
As I previously stated, I've stolen this idea from others that have posted about matchmaking issues and proto-pubstomping (sorry, don't remember your names). Is something like this possible? Is it already being looked into? |

Yes, highsec metalevel restrictions would be nice, then low sec no current restrictions, and nullsec would be free from all restrictions, current and future super weapons. |

Another benefit to these game mode would be that it would allow Tankers to bring their Tanks to Meta Level 3 matches and not have to worry about Prototype AV. And the AV'ers won't have to worry about Prototype Turrets! Which should help with the "Nerf AV!" and the "Nerf Tanks!" rage threads. |

I would rather see a total suit meta level determined by sec status. Higher the sec status the lower the total meta level down to null being unrestricted. Acceleration gates restrict vessels by hull size and tech levels.
1.0 could have a total meta of 4 0.9 - 6 0.8 - 9 0.7 - 13 Of course my numbers are just examples. Total meta would allow sacrifices to be made to carry a better meta item. If you are a good shot and don't die often you could leave off a defensive module and carry a better weapon. I believe that mercs know their skill level and will migrate to the areas that play at their level and if pros want to pub stomp then they are using personal skill and SP but not proto weapons or modules. |

Setting up meta level sec status games like that would be very cool. It could also boost sales of the militia dropsuit/module bpo's because meta levels would matter. Although, could make either my fitting manager a mess by having a fitting for every sec status or the instant battle screen a mess with all the options. Maybe just another window with the sec option after choosing which game mode they want. |
