Even after months on and off playing Dust 514 and lately been hanging out in the forum here, I still haven't been able to comprehend a few of the terms here. I'm a newberry still, so bear with me! What are...
FOTM? FW? My guess it is Factional Warfare. If so, where and how do I join this? Is it the same as Planetary Conquest? Proto?
What differs Mercenary Battles from Factional Warfare? Does Mercenary Battle keep records for EVE Players to see who's the baddest?
Why isn't Corporation Battle in yet?
I looked in the Rookie Training Ground, but they don't provide much information. The Wiki is okay. If you have a comprehensive list of the glossary terms and/or more information, please link it for me. Thanks.

FOTM = Flavor of the Month.
FW = Factional Warfare. It's similar to Planetary conquest, but no one (except one of the four major factions, e.g. Amarr) can "hold" the planet. You fight for one of the factions of your choosing, regardless of starting race. It's the same as mercenary battles.
Prototype. Best tier of weapons/suits/modules. Give the biggest bonuses.
Corporation battles are planetary conquest. |

A little expansion on what Laheon said, FOTM specifically means what fitting is hot right now. Currently it's tactical assault rifles and caldari logistics dropsuits, however when CCP eventually realizes they are too powerful and nerfs them there will be another fit that everybody flocks to.
Also, faction warfare can be joined by opening the battle finder and going over to the "mercenary battle" tab. There isn't always one there, but when there are you will be able to pick which side you fight for. Fighting for one faction over another doesn't have any effect currently, but it might in the future. |

So Mercenary Battle is just for fun? What about holding lands?
Thanks, much appreciated. +1

You fight for a faction, for control over another planet. In EVE, faction warfare means you can take over a system for that faction. For example, I can fight for the Amarr against the Minmatar and set up a base in those systems I've conquered to further fight back.
Currently, in DUST, you can fight over planets and work towards gaining control of those systems. Essentially, DUST players can undo the hard work EVE players have done. Currently, there aren't any benefits from doing Factional Warfare for the DUST players apart from RP purposes.
Also, there's no benefit for choosing one faction over another, as that system isn't in yet.
Edit: To hold a planet, you need to join a corp and be in Planetary Conquest. |

Only way to hold a land AKA a district is to start a corp and attack and take someone else's district.
Its harder then it sounds.
Also, yeah merc battles are just for fun for now. It does serve a purpose, you just dont benefit from it right now. |

But FW is way entertaining than normal pub match. As people there are somewhat more organize and have more clue what they are doing (At least they know they can switch tab and choose mercenary battle). Which lead to closer game, less red line and more fun game in general. |

I think caldari dropsuits will be on the way out now with the scrambler rifle acting as a nerf.
so if every thing is properly balanced there should be no FOTM? |
