As it is at the moment, its not viable for a new player to only skill in to dropship piloting, as the isk required to keep up a decent dropship, lets say a well fitted Myron, is way too high compared to the durability of the dropships.
It takes quite some SP and thereby isk(skill books) to get a decent dropship that a pilot can fly into battle, which is fair. Problem is that if one is not very skilled at flying a dropship and even if you are, it's In my opinion way too easy to shoot down a dropship.
Now I can see the problem in making etc. the Myron alot more durable, but atleast make them abit stronger or make the prototype dropships stronger. I do acknownledge that people might whine, that it will be way harder to shoot down a dropship, but at the current prices it takes to fit a decent dropships. I mean apart from the dropship itself, the modules can easily cost you more than the dropship all together.
One of the solutions I was thinking about was making the dropships and maybe the modules cheaper. This could be applied for all the dropships or maybe advanced level or keep the prices and make the dropship more durable.
I do not have many direct solutions, as I hope people will respond to the thread with some. |

They actually nerfed the Myron this build (if my memory serves me right). In chromosome they had 1700 shield, now they have 1075. This means the myron has the same shield as the Python. The Eryx still has 1700 though, so the Eryx is more tanky and has a CRU onboard, however it has the same PG as a Myron.
Basically, a Myron isn't a long-term strategy. A Python has the same health but more maneuverability and a front turret, however it only seats 4. The Eryx has basically the same maneuverability, 625 more base shield, the same PG, 6 seats, and a free CRU. Don't stay in the Myron, kids.
The really cool thing is that once you're in a Python or an Eryx, you're only 62K SP away from the other one, as both require Caldari Dropship 5. I've got both, although I favor the Python and there is really no use skilling up the Eryx (I've got like 75 extra CPU and the skill affects CPU).
The "fix" I think we need is bigger maps. This gives us more places to run, and if AV is heavy in one area we can simply withdraw for another. In the current maps, you can generally hit every red line from one spot with a forge gun or swarm launcher. Plus, with sniper tanks you can generally hit the opposite team's red line from your own :( |
