Playing around with fits, I am starting to think that there are few situations where I will take enhanced or complex armor plates over basic armor plates. Basic armor plates provide 21.67 armor per 1% of speed loss (not counting efficacy skill). Enhanced armor plates provide 17.4 armor per 1% of speed loss. Complex armor plates provide 11.5 armor per 1% of speed loss.
So, does anyone find the additional speed loss ratio worth it on their fits? Just curious. |

If you play or start a heavy the speed reduction is very hard to notice if you can notice it all. |

Il never do complex but what i will do is 1 basic and 1 enhanced together. |

I use 3 basic plates and 2 reppies instead of 1 complex plate and 4 reppies because the slower speed and loss of hp is not worth the use of complex. Speed=better bullet dodging (lag) at this moment in time. Yeah basically the complex plates are only used if you need those other slots for other junk. |

Basic is most efficient when it comes to speed reduction, but least efficient when it comes to HP per slot. Look at it that way, and you'll see that the upper tier plates are good, you just can't be too worried about speed.

Honestly, two enhanced plates aren't going to murder your speed like complex plates will and will give you more armor HP than militia or basic plates. They are a happy medium, I think. Basic plates are good, but I wouldn't short yourself the HP. |

I've been using hydraSlav's excellent fitting tool to mess around with fits. I have made a Gallente Proto Logi suit using enhanced plates. I have 483 armor and 103 shield (this is with my soon to be respec'd skills). I end up being a little under 8% (7.8%) slower than the Amarr logi. Obviously, the spreadsheet is one thing, and how it handles is another. But it will be one of the first suits I try.
But, I also have two enhanced caridac regulators and 3 x complex light damage mods. And of course a mix of ADV and STD equipment.
Conversely, with basic plates, I end up with 411 armor but only 3.2% slower than an Amarr logi. I also free up plenty of CPU/PG to upgrade my equipment. Lots of interesting builds to experiment with.
Then of course there is the ability to stack 5 x Complex Repairers which gives 35 hp/s (but you compromise fitting).
I decided to respec from Minmatar logistics to Gallente logistics because Gallente's bonus of 25% lowered CPU/PG for equipment is an enormous bonus. And I cannot stand having an empty equipment slot.
Anyways, thanks for everyone's take. I still am having a hard time justifying complex armor plates, but once I skill into them, I will experiment further.

Hey J,
I run Proto Gallente Logi right now with 3 Enhanced Plates, One Militia Speed Mod and one Complex Repper.
It's like piloting a brick. Now to be fair I'm a scout suit lover at heart but took on a Logi role to help others and my corp. I hate my suit to a certain extent. I just can't get used to armor tanking. I hate having to run with equipment out just to have a prayer of keeping up with corp mates.
I'm switching to Minmitar at the Respec. I'm not sure how much you engage targets up close but the slower strafe speed is apparent with the Gallente. It's not for everyone but I hope you enjoy it. I probably will skill back into it to use solely as a support suit down the road.
If you have any questions about the suit from someone with first hand experience let me know. |

ummm plates don't mess with strafe speed. i test it with 4 complex plats on a logi and no change |

I have been thinking a lot about what you have said regarding Minmatar vs. Gallente. And I think I am going to stick with Minmatar, and here is why.
The one thing I like about the Minnie suit is the extra speed. And it's the one thing we cannot increase with modules. So, I can work around the higher CPU/PG equipment use just so I can keep the additional speed.
Besides, I was able to build a decent proto suit albeit with having to downgrade my equipment. Also... I was not thrilled about the hacking bonus at first, but I have become the squad capper.
At the respec, I am sticking with Minmatar Logistics, my second suit I skill into will be Gallente though . |

On my Proto Gallente Scout, I threw on 1 Complex, 1 Enhanced, and 1 Basic plate for a massive Armor bonus. And my PG is only 2 units under being maxed. I've got 422 armor. On a Scout. The downside is that I am almost as slow a a medium frame soldier. I needed the survivability; you may not. So ask yourself whether or not you're dropping too quickly. |

Right now, if I have EHP of about 400, I feel pretty comfortable. Of course, these are pub matches. Once I'm up against proto weapons, it all seems to melt.
As a logi, I tend not to be the first one up front, so range gives me a buffer by way of falloff.
But, I did notice a decline in my survival time once my speed was reduced too much.
Needless to say, like in EVE, fitting will always be a work in progress. |
