As far as I know, I understand the systems of DUST514. Where mercenary battles are battles where that have real consequences, and instant matches do not. Most people would presume that its fair enough to expect that if you get your **** handed to you in mercenary you are probably getting smacked down from an organized group that doesn't want to lose its assets, but if that happens in instant match once or twice, then maybe you are having bad run, or maybe you are actually that bad.
Problem is that, when someone gets steamrolled in instant match, most of the time, its the person's entire team, and by a much more advanced, organized group in proto suits going against randomers, and I don't know the statistics , but I presume that the group of randomers are the largest fanbase of this game, and I'm sure CCP doesn't want to alienate them do they?
I personally hate it when I started a new character, had fun in the academy as everyone was on my level (unorganized, fresh, militia equipment), then got into normal games, only for it to completely turn on its head and for me and my team to get steamrolled again and again by higher level who are in squads, in corps, have proto equipment, and usually a mix of all three.
Now I'm no expert, but I'm sure there are some pretty easy ways to fix this issue, such as dedicated squad only game modes, or maybe matchmaking you with users of the same meta level as you given the average meta level of your useable assets. |

If thats a genuine issue for them, that just speaks for the state of the video game industry in general. I haven't had other experiences with CCP, but so far it seems like they have made promises they can't hold, and being lazy with stuff that's expected of them (such as making the game fair instead of throwing newbies to the lions and expecting them to come back). |

Difference is that matchmaking in the academy and in normal instant matches, is that in the academy you are matched with people just as fresh as you, so unless they are buying their way to get their equipment (and even at academy level best you can get is level normal equipment), there's no way they have drastically better equipment than you.
Academy uses smart matchmaking to match you with people on your level, rather than the normal matchmaking which throws you into the first match with (I presume) with a good ping, which fair enough is nice, but I rather know the level and ping of the match I'm thrown into so I can have a chance but slight lag, instead of silky smooth curbstomping. |
