Hey all, i guess i'm what u guys would call a blueberry sniper. I realized lately that most people don't enjoy having snipers on their teams. I am really just sniping to earn better gear...... . Seriously i tried running around with medic suits to rev and help the squad but i die so fast even when i get a head start on the guy. Assault suits didn't really help either. I'm using the militia and i guess there is better gear but i cant really afford anything isk and sp wise. To be honest it seems like this game rewards players for keeping themselves alive and getting a nice k/d rate even if it means losing the game. Honestly i dont see an increase whether i win or lose so whats the point? I'm expecting to get sum pretty harsh "you're a noob" insults but seriously how can i be blamed when the game literally rewards the playstyle of a cowardly sniper? More isk, less loss of suits so i can actually save up to compete with these 500+ shield and armor guys. Also i'd like to know if there is any point of a sniper squading up or if i'm just wasting space for a field player. Feel free to give any advice but please realize most people who have been playing this game actually have decent gear even while they preach about how you don't need decent gear to be effective. ANYWAY would just like to add that i play this game for fun and me running around and getting iced in 2 secs is NOT very fun. Maybe its just that i suck at straight up shoot outs but the gear difference really doesn't help.... |

Ok a couple of misconceptions here; if you're playing a sniper to make money initially - stop.
Unless you're really good.
From what I've observed, ISK distributions at the end of matches are based on the amount of WP you accrue during the match, which is difficult to do as a sniper because essentially all the WP you're getting is from kills. If you're running on the ground however, it can be very easy to get WP through assisted kills and hacking objectives. This will lead to more SP and more ISK earnt per match.
If you can't afford better suits ISK or SP wise, why don't you just use the *free* militia starter suits that everyone gets to begin with? Like I said - these suits are 100% free and so literally all of your match earnings will be profit so who cares how much you die or not?
Having said all of this, if you enjoy sniping by all means continue on. I'm a dedicated sniper so I'm going to be the last person to talk you out of it, and I would be lying if I told you it wasn't more profitable the more effective you become. Just be aware that there is a certain stigma around new players sniping, in that because they're generally not very effective, they don't contribute to the team as they aren't getting kills and aren't hacking objectives.
In relation to the squad comment: If you're sniping and you can provide overwatch for the squad, shout out enemy movements and help them engage enemies by taking out their shields or whatever when they're engaged, you will provide a lot of benefit to your squad. Voice comms for this is essentially a must though, so if you aren't all on them its going to be of limited use. |

I've seen snipers go 18/0 and lead their team in WPs. And "F****ing sniper" is as common a complaint on comms as "F***ing tank". It's hard to do well, and there is a learning curve so if you want to be good do it. However, if you want to be a medic you should be training as a medic.
Get two suits: one with drop uplinks and one with a rep gun. Start in the uplink suit, drop it somewhere safe, change to your rep gun. Follow a heavy and keep him alive. Gather up all the delicious delicious +25 WP for team spawn and +30 WP for triage. Learn how to be a good logi. It will suck when you have all your new toys but all the sensibilities of a sniper. |

In correct on the ISK/WP think. If I get 12 kills in a match I can get close to 200K ISK, but only about 600 WP or so. ISK isn't tied to WP, it's tied to performance, just like SP is. The better you perform the more ISK you make, the more WP you make, and the more SP you make. As a sniper just AFKing a full match I can make 6-7K SP and 160K ISK and never earn a single WP. |

Depends what kind of sniper you are really if you go 15+ for 0 cover objectives and call out enemy movement you will be loved by your teammates.
If you do any of the following you will be hated: Get 3-4 kills then go hide to protect your KDR, refuse to target enemy snipers because you dont want to draw their attention incase they target you back, run back to the spawn point if an enemy so much as farts in your general direction (again to protect KDR.), send people hatemail if you shoot someone 400m away and a teammate gets the kill and you just get an assist, find other snipers and go sit infront of them so they dont steal your kills, act all offended when someone drops a nanohive next to you and regard it as if it has the plague and very carefully avoid it when running back to the supply depot for ammo, when you see a bluedot getting chased and they lead an enemy in your line of sight deciding this is the moment to go for a 200m no-scope headshot, quit the match as soon as you die or last but not least snipe from a bad position while not being able to hit the broadside of a barn. |

For the OP, players have mixed feelings about snipers. Some players love them, until they are being shot by them. As a sniper you can make yourself more useful by providing your squad with situational awareness and if there are other snipers, let them know to call them out for you and you intercept. Players tend to lean towards active snipers vs snipers who camp on e spot and contribute very little to the match as a whole. But if you are actively calling out sniper locations to your squad so they know where not to go and if you provide other intel to them, and counter-snipe for them, then they'll love you. Hell even snipers hate snipers.
how do you think performance is calculated? SP is 5 SP per second you're in the match + the amount of WP you earn. ISK seems to be loosely based on Some part WP, some part time in match and some part ISK destroyed. This is readily apparent when I've had 32/0 games as a sniper and earnt ~280k ISK, and then I spend time killing tanks, hacking objectives and going 10/2 (or something) against a team of protosuits and getting ~500k

I have yet to see anyone use the plasma cannon effectivley its always used as a one shot shotgun or to soften a shield tank before the barrage of AV nades. I only use mine as a sort of trolling method. |

You misunderstand what I mean. What I mean is that there isn't an "exchange" rate that ties them together. IE, 1 WP doesn't earn you a certain amount or fraction of ISK. Yeah, you get ISK along with WP and SP, but the correlation between ISK and WP isn't like the correlation between SP and WP. Does that make more sense as to what I'm trying to say? There is automatically a base amount of ISK for the match, then I do believe you are right that you get additional ISK based off of ISK destroyed regardless of type. So the more kills you have and better the type of gear you destroy the more ISK you earn. WP is the same no matter what, whether you kill a player in Militia or a player in Proto, you get 50 WP, but the amount of ISK you get is different. |

Its hard to snipe but it gets better as you skill up. Skill up the SMG and have a dual SMG plus a reptool to follow heavies.
It does get better with some skill points invested.
Or you can do Death race 30, 000 aka GTA Dust with free jeeps but then I am going to hunt you down with AV nades.
Good luck.

You mean SP....better gear is only marginally better in the higher tiers....seriously look at the stats and compare to the buffs SP gives you.
But yeah i can respect what you are doing. One can take getting face stomped by bad players being carried by their Sp/gear for so long....and that time period is always shorter then it takes to cap out on SP for the week.
In many ways the SP/leveling system is broken. Get up out from under it any which way you can. |

Yeah play domination, get your up link as close and safe to the objective as possible and reap the WP rewards. On snipers in squads, their great if they got a mic, and can tell you what is coming your way, or invaluable when it comes to precision strike location. |

Although to be fair in the last build I saw non-snipers avoid nanohives and go straight for the nearest supply depot. Some people were deploying their hives next to supply depots to get the warpoints. It sometimes feels like there is a "they're all dingleberries, screw 'em," mindset out there. |

I've had a match with 0/1 and about 100 WP (2 hacks, might have been 75 if one was an assist, I don't remember) and made over 400,000 ISK.
These are the factors that influence your income:
1. WIn/loss. The winning team gets something like 55% or 60% of the total pot divided among their members. It isn't a huge difference, but it's there. 2. Total ISK destroyed. This isn't based on how much ENEMY equipment is destroyed, it's how much is destroyed across both teams. 3. Time spent in match. If you've been around for the whole battle, you get your full potential share of the loot. If you joined late, you get less of the profits, EVEN if you out-performed everyone else. 4. WP earnings. This probably has the least effect, but if you're in the match from the start and at the top of the scoreboard, you'll earn more ISK than a guy who was also there the whole time, but did nothing for the whole battle. If you join halfway through a battle and come first on the team, a guy with 0WP will still get more money than you. |

I have to disagree here mate, I've spent a lot of time as a sniper and most of my WP comes directly from kills and nothing else (rarely assists). I'll average 600-800 WP for an ambush, and I seem to get fairly average amounts of ISK (~180-260k), and then as soon as I strap on a shotgun or AR and get 1300+ WP my ISK skyrockets to 320K+ (depending on the WP, obviously) |
