Having used the plasma cannon, I really struggle to see what role this weapon can fulfill. Its dps makes it inferior as an AV weapon, and its rof makes it inferior as an area denial weapon. It's clear that this weapon was intended to be a bit of both, but all that means is that it fails twice.
Since most weapons have breach & assault variants, I think it would be a good idea to have each of these apply to the AV & AP roles independantly. Here are my suggestions:
Assault - reduced damage per shot, reduced splash damage & area, but a clip size of 3. This would be the AV option. Its reduced splash would limit its AP effectiveness, while a clip would make its dps viable for AV work.
Breach - reduced slash damage, and reduced direct damage, but greatly increased splash area. This would be the AP option; effectively a flux launcher - one big blast to shields in a group of enemies to soften it for an attack. The the larger blast radius would make sure it doesn't tread into mass driver territory. |

It is not AV! It is anti installation and antipersonel. The description even says that it is meant for confined space combat. When you pick this weapon up, think "shotgun".
It isn't anti installation. Installations are just the only things we're likely to hit with them. |

Faced with such a comprehensive argument, I am forced to reconsider my position. |
