Some of you and those of us who are more familiar with eve know the subtleties of damage types and base resistances that both shields and armor have. while we are not given these stats as attributes in Dust, they do exist in some dumbed down ambiguous state. To understand more how certain damage types from different weapons in Dust514 affect your suits shields and armor, lets take a look at how these attributes work in EvE and then make some assumptions about how they work here.
TL;DR There are four damage types in EvE, Electromagnetic (EM), Explosive (EXP), Kinetic (KIN), and Thermal (THERM). Each race is associated with a damage type, in that they excel at utilizing weapons which harness those damage types.
Amarr - EM Minmatar - EXP Caldari - KIN Gallente - THERM
This does not necessarily mean that each race uses only those damage types. However each race has an affinity towards using specific turret types. Those turret types then vary in their damage types.
Amarr use Laser turrets - EM and THERM -Beam turrets are long range -Pulse cannons are short range
Minmatar use Projectile Weapons - EM, EXP, KIN, and THERM -Artillery turrets are long range -Autocannons are short range
Caldari and Gallente use Hybrid Weapons - KIN and THERM -Rail Guns are long range -Blaster Turrets are Short range
(note to eve folks: yes i know that Caldari love their missles and Gallente love their Drones more than the rest of the races)
TL;DR In EvE, each Tech 1 ship (from every race) has these base resistances to their shields and armor.
Shields: 0% EM, 60% Explosive, 40% Kinetic, 20% Thermal. -this means that shields are most vulnerable to EM damage, and strongest against EXP damage.
Armour: 60% EM, 10% Explosive, 35% Kinetic, 35% Thermal. -this means that armor is most vulnerable to EXP damage, and strongest against EM.
With this in mind lets look at how effective each turret type is against shields and armor generally.
-Lasers are most effective against Shields and weak against
-Projectiles are the most adaptable (depending on ammo type) to either shield or armor. However tech 2 ammo for projectile turrets in eve are most effective against armor as they do EXP and KIN damage types
-Hybrids are mutually effective against both shields and armor
in the next post, I will make some assumptions as to the damage types of the weapons we use in Dust, so that you may make better choices on the battlefield. |

Hybrid (plasma) - assault rifle, plasma cannon, ion pistol (not yet released), shotgun Hybrid (railgun) - forge gun, sniper rifle, magsec SMG (not yet released), rail rifle (not yet released), bolt pistol (not yet released) Laser (beam) - laser rifle Laser (pulse) - scrambler pistol, scrambler rifle Projectile - SMG, HMG, combat rifle (not yet released), precision rifle (not yet released) Explosive - mass driver, swarm launcher, flaylock pistol
